Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Zhasulan Boranbayev! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 5 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Kaplan Temrezov! The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Illya Tyunina and Ivan Kurochkin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Temrezov stuffs the takedown. Temrezov misses with a takedown and Boranbayev counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Temrezov shoots in but no luck this time. A head kick misses from Boranbayev. Boranbayev throws a head kick that misses. Temrezov throws a fast counter high kick but Boranbayev manages to duck under it in time. Boranbayev tries to clinch there but Temrezov circles away.
Temrezov swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made. Boranbayev lands a nice shot to the body.
Boranbayev throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Temrezov was covering up waiting for the punch and Boranbayev finishes the takedown easily into guard. Boranbayev postures up.

That's one minute gone in the round. Temrezov looking for a sweep. Not yet Temrezov, not yet. Boranbayev is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Temrezov looking to hit a scissor sweep but Boranbayev is one step ahead there. Boranbayev wants to control from the top but Temrezov keeps moving. Temrezov trying to control the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Temrezov preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Boranbayev clinches up with Temrezov and pushes him back against the cage. Temrezov keeps control of Boranbayev as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Temrezov manages to break the clinch.
Boranbayev scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Temrezov is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Boranbayev throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Temrezov wants to control but Boranbayev is keeping busy and won't allow it. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Temrezov can do anything to dispel that myth. Boranbayev thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Temrezov landing rabbit punches to the side of Boranbayev's head. That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Boranbayev takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Temrezov closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Boranbayev's guard. Boranbayev is trying to keep Temrezov in close.
Boranbayev wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Temrezov is now in half guard. Temrezov seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Boranbayev gets full guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Zhasulan Boranbayev dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Excellent takedown into side control there by Temrezov. Temrezov throwing shots but missing, from side control. Temrezov working away. Temrezov trying to control the position but Boranbayev is working away. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. You can see the frustration on Boranbayev's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Temrezov wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Boranbayev, who protects the arm well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Boranbayev avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Temrezov. Temrezov tries to score with some ground and pound. Boranbayev controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. Boranbayev is looking for a sweep. Boranbayev is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Temrezov is controlling him well. Temrezov trying to control the action but Boranbayev is working from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Temrezov pulls Boranbayev into guard.
Temrezov is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Temrezov is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Boranbayev defends well. Temrezov is breathing heavily. Boranbayev sitting in guard, not really doing much. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Boranbayev accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Temrezov can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Boranbayev controls the pace. Boranbayev preventing the sweep. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Temrezov escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Boranbayev gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Boranbayev cracks a nice hook into Temrezov's ribs. Boranbayev shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Temrezov as he avoids it easily. Boranbayev shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Boranbayev not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Boranbayev thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Temrezov's head. Temrezov is trying to get back to full guard. Temrezov avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Boranbayev. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Temrezov actively working from the bottom here. Boranbayev missing with the ground and pound from half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Kaplan Temrezov showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!
Boranbayev shoots in looking for a takedown. Temrezov tries to sprawl out of it but Boranbayev keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Temrezov manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Boranbayev keeps the fight on the outside. Boranbayev went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected. Temrezov changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Boranbayev tries to avoid it but Temrezov manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Boranbayev to the ground. Boranbayev escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Temrezov tries for a takedown but Boranbayev sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Boranbayev tries to clinch there but Temrezov circles away.

Temrezov is looking for the big counter here. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Temrezov moves into the clinch. Temrezov's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
That's one minute gone in the round. Temrezov closes the distance looking to clinch and Boranbayev counters with a shoot takedown. Temrezov fights it but they end up in guard. Temrezov takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Boranbayev works a leg free and moves into half guard. Temrezov has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Boranbayev is working away from the top position though. Boranbayev is taking a breather. Temrezov says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Boranbayev throwing shots but Temrezov is blocking nicely. Temrezov trying to control from the bottom.

Temrezov tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Temrezov darts in and clinches Boranbayev up against the cage. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Temrezov breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
