PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tommy Tapper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Serpico (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Serpico is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: AC/DC - Back in Black. On his way into the cage it seems that Tommy Tapper has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Tommy Tapper seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tommy Tapper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frank Serpico!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Alan Glass and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Tapper decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Tapper trying to mount his opponent but Serpico defends it.

Serpico manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Serpico stuffs the takedown.
Tapper fails with the takedown.

Serpico scores a takedown into full mount!

Tapper tries to hold on but Serpico pushes him away.

Serpico sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Serpico can't control as he wanted to and Tapper manages to get the fight back to his half guard.

Serpico seems to be working for a kimura but Tapper defends the submission attempt.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Serpico content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Serpico is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Tapper doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Serpico.
Tapper regains full guard. Nicely done.
Tapper manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Serpico manages to get himself to full guard.
Tapper passes into half guard under a barage of strikes.

Serpico is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Tapper pulls his head out easily.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Serpico pushes Tapper off looking to stand but Tapper dives back in and keeps control.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Serpico wants to get back to full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
A thudding body kick lands there by Serpico!

Serpico has closed the distance and engaged Tapper in a clinch.
Serpico tries for a takedown but Tapper manages to get underhooks.
Tapper tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Serpico smiles and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tommy Tapper. That's going to take a lot out of him.

That's time! Tapper's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Serpico shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Tapper's guard.

Serpico seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Tapper does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Serpico wants the takedown. Tapper is fighting it off but Serpico persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Tapper's guard against the cage.
Tapper is trying to control the position but Serpico postures up.
Serpico is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

and Serpico counters with a good low kick that Tapper was not able to check.

Serpico tries to lock up and control but Tapper gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Serpico holds on to Tapper as tight as he can, avoiding damage.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Tapper moves to back control.
Serpico trying to control but not successfully.
Serpico can't escape the position.
Tapper gets his hands free as Serpico looks to control.
Serpico rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Serpico wants to get back to his feet.

Tapper escapes and gets back to his feet.
Serpico lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

Tapper has Serpico up against the cage in a clinch.
Tapper tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Serpico smiles and moves away.

Tapper shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Tapper was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Frank Serpico will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Tapper looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Serpico with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Tapper looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Serpico is refusing to be controlled, as Tapper sits in half guard.
Tapper is pressing down on Serpico's thigh, looking to free his foot. Serpico is holding on for now.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Tapper swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Serpico forces Tapper back against the cage and clinches.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Tapper tries to score a body lock takedown but Serpico shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Tapper tries to pull guard but Serpico won't allow it.

Serpico wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Tapper is trying to trip Serpico. He has hold of a leg but Serpico is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Tapper persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Tapper is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Serpico is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Serpico kicks Tapper off and gets to his feet.
Serpico lands a nice hook to Tapper's body. Tapper takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Serpico gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Tapper counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Serpico's guard now.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!

Serpico is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Serpico controls Tapper momentarily but Tapper frees himself.
Tommy Tapper has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Serpico working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Tapper doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Tapper manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

I think Serpico has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
