PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Percy Carney (ranked 8930 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jason Miller (ranked 6050 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jason Miller was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Percy Carney!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jason Miller!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Stewart Dunkirk and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Miller looks to clinch
and Carney finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.

Miller gets a double leg takedown into Carney's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Miller throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Carney works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Carney tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Carney manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Carney really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Carney tries for a takedown. No joy.
Carney has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Miller avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Miller gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Carney.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Percy Carney. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Carney has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Miller is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
A frustrated look appears on Miller's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Carney is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Miller jumps guard and drags Carney to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Carney wants to control from the top but Miller keeps moving.
Carney is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Carney will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Miller controls Carney momentarily but Carney frees himself.
Miller trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

Miller is striking from the bottom but Carney uses the opportunity to pass into half guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Miller misses with some strikes from the bottom.

Miller is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Miller tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Carney has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Miller is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Carney throwing strikes here but Miller is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Carney knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Miller on the ground.
Miller tries to hold on but Carney postures up.
Carney thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

Miller is looking to get to half guard.
Carney unloads with some shots from mount but Miller bucks and avoids them well.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Miller is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Carney looking to control and managing it successfully.
Miller is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes.
Carney trying to control but Miller is having none of it.
Miller tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Percy Carney dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Miller rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Carney moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Miller shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Carney manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Carney manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Miller is fighting off a takedown attempt but Carney is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Miller to the mat. Miller regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Carney is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Miller closes the distance and lands a one-two.


Carney is rocked!


It looks like Percy Carney has been cut.

Miller closes the distance and clinches.
Oh Carney is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Carney keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Miller's efforts to push away.
Carney seems to have got his legs back now.

Miller gets control of Carney's arms and successfully pulls guard. Miller will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Carney accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Carney is trying to drag Miller to the mat but Miller just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

A close second round but Jason Miller will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The cut man is working on Percy Carney's cut.
That's time! Carney's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Miller tries to close the distance and clinch up but Carney swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Carney changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Miller tries to avoid it but Carney manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Miller to the ground. Miller escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Miller tries to counter with a clinch but Carney shakes him off and moves away.

Carney has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Miller is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
Carney is trying to pull guard but Miller has him pressed against the cage.

Miller is defending well against a takedown attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Miller wants to get back to striking at distance but Carney won't allow it.
Carney changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Miller fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Horrible takedown attempt by Carney or perhaps it was just good defense by Miller, which made it look bad.

Miller fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Carney sprawls well initially but Miller persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Miller is keen to just control but Carney is a slippery customer.
Carney is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Percy Carney overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Miller is looking for a kimura here.
Miller wants to control but Carney is keeping him busy.

Carney flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Miller is trying to control the action in half guard but Carney is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Miller passes the guard and advances to mount!
Miller trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Carney wants to control but Miller is having none of it.
Miller with a couple of short strikes.

Miller goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Carney turns into him and now he's in Miller's guard.

Carney is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Miller is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Miller is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Carney is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Carney has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Carney seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Miller for as long as he can get away with.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jason Miller comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Miller has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
