Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Forest Tran! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Abdul Ahmadzai! The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Viktor Lagutenko and Dmitry Maklakov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ahmadzai shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Tran manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Ahmadzai sitting in guard, not really doing much. Ahmadzai throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Tran works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Ahmadzai wanted to stand there but Tran had control of the position. Tran being controlled here, momentarily. Ahmadzai has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Tran looking to control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ahmadzai throwing strikes but missing. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Ahmadzai wants to get up but he can't break Tran's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Nice sprawl there from Tran as Ahmadzai shoots in. Ahmadzai throws an off balance right hand
and Tran counters with a two punch combo. Nice sprawl there from Tran as Ahmadzai shoots in. Tran appears to be looking for a counter takedown. Ahmadzai throws a sloppy head kick and Tran moves out of range easily. Tran feinted with a counter takedown. Ahmadzai shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Tran napping and manages to drive through into side control! A lull in the action here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Tran tries to improve position but can't. Ahmadzai in side control, just content to control the action for now. Ahmadzai has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Tran! Ahmadzai controlling the pace for now. Ahmadzai goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Tran is on top in guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ahmadzai looking for a sweep. Not yet Ahmadzai, not yet. Tran knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ahmadzai on the ground. Ahmadzai wants to stand but Tran is controlling the position. Ahmadzai has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Tran can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Ahmadzai controlling the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Tran has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Ahmadzai to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Tran is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Ahmadzai pulls down on the head and he's put Tran to sleep! This one is all over!
