And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Roman Reigns!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Russell Pearce and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Perry takes the fight into the clinch.

Perry decides to pull guard.
Reigns looking to pass the guard.
Reigns wants to stand but Perry has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Reigns stopping the sweep attempt from Perry.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Reigns looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Perry trying to keep a closed guard but Reigns is proving a slippery customer.

Reigns stays in close to Perry's body and controls the position.
Reigns works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Reigns is stalling here. Perry is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Reigns seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Perry has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Perry definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Perry creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Reigns sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Perry is looking for a kimura but Reigns is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Perry to get the leverage.

Perry seems to be looking for submissions.

Perry perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Perry seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Reigns does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Reigns throws an elbow but it misses.

Perry manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Reigns with a lazy takedown attempt

and Perry counters by moving into the clinch.

Perry escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Perry looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Reigns is fending him off so far but Perry persists. Nope, Reigns circles away and we're back to standing.

Perry fires out a quick counter leg kick but Reigns just manages to avoid it.
Reigns throws a combination that misses
and Perry counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Nice sprawl there from Reigns as Perry shoots in.
Reigns tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

Reigns scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Perry gets back to half guard.
Perry has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Reigns is working away from the top position though.

Ground and pound from Reigns.
Perry trying to control but Reigns postures up.
Reigns is nestled in close to Perry, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Reigns should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Reigns tries to stand and escape but Perry is controlling the position.
Perry is looking to escape.
Reigns wants to take a breather but Perry is having none of it.
Reigns is controlling the pace.
Reigns is trying to control the action in half guard but Perry is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Perry jumps guard and drags Reigns to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Perry is on top in guard.

Perry stands up from Reigns's guard - Perry perhaps looking for a knockout.
Reigns shoots in for a takedown but Perry shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
As Reigns looks to move away, Perry throws a big counter combo but Reigns just gets out of the way.
Reigns lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Perry circles away quickly and effectively.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Reigns is defended easily by Perry.
Perry half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Reigns is breathing heavily.
Reigns fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
No luck for Reigns with that takedown attempt.

Perry ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Perry no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Reigns is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Reigns wants to control from the top but Perry keeps moving.
Perry is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Perry shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Reigns sprawls well. Reigns wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Perry gets slowly back to his feet.

Reigns changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Perry looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Perry shoots in for a takedown but Reigns shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Reigns darts in looking for a takedown but Perry gets double underhooks and turns Reigns into the cage.

Reigns takes an elbow to the forehead.

Perry drags the fight down to the ground.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Reigns stands and throws Perry's legs to the side, diving into side control.

You can see the frustration on Perry's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Perry gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Perry tries to lock up and control but Reigns gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Perry is wriggling around trying to escape.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Perry is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

Reigns moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Perry has worked his arm free - good work by Perry!

Reigns lands a nice forearm strike.
Reigns content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

Reigns is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Perry has escaped the position, nice work there.
Reigns wants to stand but Perry has his arm trapped.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Perry tries to bench press Reigns off him but Reigns keeps the position.
Jerry Perry overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Perry regains half guard.
Perry wants to control but Reigns is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Perry is staying active underneath Reigns, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Reigns moves in looking to clinch but Perry pushes him off.
Roman Reigns has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jerry Perry is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Perry shoots in looking for a takedown but Reigns manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Perry's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

I would just about give that final round to Roman Reigns.
I think Perry has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

After the fight, Jerry Perry was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
