The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Almeida gets a takedown into half guard.
martin is trying to control but can't.
martin works his way to full guard. Good work.

martin is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Almeida stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. martin swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Almeida avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Almeida must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Almeida throws a big right hand that misses.

Almeida trying to control but martin is working from the bottom.
martin looking to hit a scissor sweep but Almeida is one step ahead there.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Almeida had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. martin is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Almeida Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take martin's back instead.

Almeida goes for a risky armbar from back mount and it's not paid off. martin escapes and is now in half guard on top.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Almeida preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.

martin throws a big right hand that misses.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
martin working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
martin wants to control from the top but Almeida keeps moving.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Almeida can do anything to dispel that myth.

Almeida is looking for a triangle here but martin uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Almeida is looking for a sweep.
Almeida parries the strikes from martin easily there. martin is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Almeida to escape.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

martin is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Almeida has escaped the position, nice work there.
Almeida really doesn't want to stay on the ground with martin. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Almeida tries to escape but martin is in control.
Almeida is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but martin is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Almeida tries to lock up and control but martin gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Almeida is wriggling around trying to escape.

Almeida tries to improve his position but instead martin has taken his back!

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Almeida tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Almeida has martin pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. martin manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Almeida tightens his grip and picks martin up, before dumping him to the ground. martin manages to land in guard.

Almeida drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Almeida seems to have locked his on tight now - martin screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Almeida, as he picks up the win!
