PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kaplan Temrezov (ranked 25293 p4p, 705 weight class) and Henry Armstrong (ranked 6239 p4p, 581 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Kaplan Temrezov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Henry Armstrong!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Alan Glass and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Armstrong throws a body kick, spinning off balance

and Temrezov counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Armstrong kicks off Temrezov and gets to his feet.
Armstrong tries to land a body kick

and Temrezov counters with a takedown into side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Armstrong tries to escape but Temrezov is in control.
You can see the frustration on Armstrong's face as Temrezov controls the position.
Armstrong is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Temrezov asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Temrezov staying calm.
Armstrong pushes Temrezov away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Temrezov gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Temrezov decides to stand back up.
Armstrong scores with the left hand. Temrezov knows he should have avoided that one.


It looks like Kaplan Temrezov has been cut.
An inside leg kick from Armstrong misses.
Armstrong keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Armstrong avoids a kick to the body.
Temrezov slips a jab from Armstrong.
Temrezov takes one on the button.
Armstrong wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Armstrong throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Temrezov avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Temrezov appears to be looking for a counter takedown.

Temrezov moves into the clinch.

Temrezov has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Armstrong is trying to keep an underhook but Temrezov manages to get the takedown into half guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Temrezov tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Armstrong.
Armstrong pushes Temrezov off looking to stand but Temrezov dives back in and keeps control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Armstrong pushes Temrezov off and gets back to his feet.
Armstrong tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Temrezov manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Temrezov dives in and grabs Armstrong's left leg, looking for a takedown. Armstrong pushes down on Temrezov's head and hops out.
Armstrong moves to clinch but Temrezov breaks away

so Temrezov counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Armstrong has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Temrezov off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Armstrong lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Armstrong connects with a jab.
Armstrong tries to close the distance and clinch but Temrezov swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Armstrong.
Temrezov throwing a counter right hand but Armstrong manages to avoid it.
Armstrong misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Armstrong swinging wildly here.
Armstrong lands a head shot.
Armstrong connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Temrezov momentarily.
Temrezov on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Temrezov takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.


Temrezov is rocked!
Armstrong throws a combination that misses
and Temrezov counters with a stiff right hand.
Armstrong doesn't manage to clinch there - Temrezov circles away.

Temrezov pushes Armstrong up against the cage in a clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Armstrong manages to break the clinch.
Temrezov takes a shot right to the bread basket.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Armstrong tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Temrezov paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Temrezov looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Armstrong tries to kick Temrezov off but Temrezov keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Well, if Temrezov is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Armstrong has one foot on Temrezov's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Armstrong throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
The crowd cheers as Armstrong lands an impressive looking overhand right. Temrezov doesn't seem phased though.
Armstrong looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Temrezov takes a jab right on the kisser.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Henry Armstrong dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Kaplan Temrezov's cut.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Armstrong bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Temrezov's head.

Temrezov closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Armstrong to the mat! Armstrong manages to get full guard.
Armstrong wants to stand and escape but Temrezov is having none of it.

Armstrong is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Armstrong is trying to force a seperation but Temrezov has the dominant position.
Temrezov slowing the pace effectively.
Armstrong working hard to break the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Armstrong tries to break the clinch but Temrezov is controlling the position.
Armstrong has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Temrezov jumps guard but Armstrong stands there with Temrezov around his waist. Temrezov gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Armstrong breaks the clinch.
Temrezov tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Armstrong swivels and escapes.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Temrezov shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Armstrong sprawls well. Armstrong wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Temrezov gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kaplan Temrezov. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Temrezov rushes Armstrong and presses him up against the cage.

Temrezov breaks the clinch.
Armstrong jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Temrezov shoots in for a takedown but Armstrong shows good takedown defense.
A little jabbing left from Armstrong on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Nice sprawl there from Armstrong as Temrezov shoots in.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Nice uppercut there from Armstrong.
Oh Temrezov is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Armstrong fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Temrezov seems to have got his legs back now.

Armstrong tries to clinch there but Temrezov circles away.
Armstrong is throwing punches like he's double parked. Oh my word! Huge right hand from Armstrong shuts the power down on Temrezov. Lights out, game over! Armstrong is your winner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:12 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Henry Armstrong!
