The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Belini blocks a low kick nicely. Micheals is looking to clinch but Belini is avoiding it.
Micheals closes the distance and pushes Belini back into the cage. Micheals tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Belini tries to clinch up. Micheals shoots in for a takedown but Belini shows good takedown defense. Belini will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Micheals is on top in guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Belini looking to sweep here. No luck so far. It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Belini doesn't manage to clinch there - Micheals circles away.

Micheals pushes Belini against the cage but Belini circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Belini connects with a body shot. Belini wants to clinch up but Micheals keeps it at a distance. Belini closes the distance but Micheals moves to the side and Belini takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Micheals swats away the attempt to clinch by Belini. Belini has closed the distance and engaged Micheals in a clinch.

Micheals tries to avoid it but Belini manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Micheals to the ground. Micheals escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Belini's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Belini must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Belini controls from within his opponent's guard. Belini works over Micheals with some ground and pound from guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Despite being in the dominant position, Joe Belini just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Belini feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Micheals preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Belini lands a couple of decent looking shots. Belini is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. It's a sloppy attempt though and Belini jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Belini postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Micheals is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Micheals lands a left hand that snaps the head of Belini backwards. Micheals cracks Belini with a nice body shot. Belini drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Trey Micheals has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Joe Belini is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Belini is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Micheals gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
