Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Kevin Whitfield!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Damien Sandow!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Aafke Stam and Radbod Blank.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Whitfield lands a slapping body shot.
Sandow shoots for a double leg takedown but Whitfield sprawls well. He's pushed Sandow's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Sandow misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Whitfield throws a quick counter head kick but Sandow was just out of range.
Sandow shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Whitfield counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.


It looks like Damien Sandow has been cut.
Kevin Whitfield has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Damien Sandow.
Sandow shoots for a double leg takedown but Whitfield sprawls well. He's pushed Sandow's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Whitfield feinted there with a counter leg kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sandow dives in for a single leg takedown but Whitfield sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Damien Sandow seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Whitfield connects with a single shot there.
Sandow shoots in for a double leg but Whitfield sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
A quick step to the side and Whitfield tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.

Sandow feints and as Whitfield raises his hands in defense, Sandow changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Whitfield is controlling Sandow's posture.
Whitfield has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Whitfield tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Whitfield pulls Sandow in to control the position.

Whitfield is pulling down on Sandow's head to control his posture.
Sandow tries to free his leg and advance position but Whitfield is retaining full guard.
Sandow is fighting to break Whitfield's control of his arms but Whitfield is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Whitfield has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Sandow drops back looking for a leg! Whitfield is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Whitfield manages to kick Sandow off! Sandow jumps back into Whitfield's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Whitfield doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Whitfield controlling the position.
Whitfield continues to stall.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Sandow throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Whitfield's waist but Whitfield gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Sandow off to one side.
Whitfield was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Sandow tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Whitfield defends well and Sandow ends up having to push Whitfield into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Whitfield appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.
Sandow wants to clinch
and Whitfield counters with a good low kick that Sandow was not able to check.
Sandow gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Whitfield counters with a nice uppercut.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sandow changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Whitfield tries to avoid it but Sandow manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Whitfield to the ground. Whitfield escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Sandow tries to clinch up but Whitfield circles away and keeps his distance.
Whitfield was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
A left lands for Whitfield.


That has opened up Damien Sandow's cut even more.
Whitfield drops Sandow with a straight right hand, right on the button! Whitfield follows him down to the mat and pounds him out with hammerfists until the referee jumps in to end the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:22 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Kevin Whitfield!
Kevin Whitfield seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
Damien Sandow was interviewed post fight and said 'One of the best i have ever fought congratualtions to him he is the real deal '.
