PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Juan Gonzalez (ranked 4174 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tahjet Davimenikov (ranked 3895 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Juan Gonzalez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Tahjet Davimenikov!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight stays on the outside here - Gonzalez looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Davimenikov falls off balance throwing a combination
and Gonzalez makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Gonzalez shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Davimenikov as he jumps to the side.
A little jabbing left from Davimenikov on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Gonzalez swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Davimenikov.

Davimenikov closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Gonzalez is fighting off a takedown attempt but Davimenikov is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Gonzalez to the mat. Gonzalez regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Davimenikov is stalling in the full guard.
Davimenikov stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gonzalez swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Davimenikov is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Davimenikov trying to control but Gonzalez is working from the bottom.
Gonzalez is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Davimenikov is controlling him.
Davimenikov is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Davimenikov scoring with some ground and pound.
Gonzalez not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Davimenikov pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Gonzalez is keeping the position for now.

Gonzalez is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Davimenikov scoring with some ground and pound.
Davimenikov slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Davimenikov wants to control from the top but Gonzalez keeps moving.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Gonzalez stuffs the takedown.
Davimenikov doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Gonzalez counters with a nice uppercut.
Tahjet Davimenikov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gonzalez scores with a three punch combo!
Gonzalez fails with the takedown.
Horrible takedown attempt by Gonzalez or perhaps it was just good defense by Davimenikov, which made it look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Juan Gonzalez. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gonzalez stalks Davimenikov and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Davimenikov's face. Davimenikov staggers backwards, shaken.

Davimenikov drives through with a takedown into guard.
Davimenikov is standing up over Gonzalez. Gonzalez looks to escape but Davimenikov dives into side control.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!


Davimenikov tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Davimenikov has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Davimenikov is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Gonzalez knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Davimenikov controlling the position from side mount.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Juan Gonzalez will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


A head kick misses from Gonzalez.

Davimenikov gets a clinch.

Davimenikov jumps into guard, dragging Gonzalez to the mat.

Davimenikov isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Gonzalez stacks Davimenikov on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Gonzalez!
Davimenikov can't do much from the bottom here.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Gonzalez wants to stand but Davimenikov is controlling his arm.
Davimenikov is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Gonzalez missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Davimenikov can do anything to dispel that myth.

Davimenikov keeping moving, preventing Gonzalez from controlling successfully.
Davimenikov can't keep his opponent in guard - Gonzalez advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Gonzalez wants to stand but Davimenikov has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gonzalez works his way into full mount!
Davimenikov really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gonzalez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Gonzalez wants to control the pace but Davimenikov is squirming around nicely.
Davimenikov wants to hold on but Gonzalez pushes him away.

Gonzalez moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Davimenikov has worked his arm free - good work by Davimenikov!
Davimenikov tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Davimenikov wants to control but Gonzalez postures up.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Davimenikov looks to move to half guard but instead Gonzalez has passed into mount! Damn!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Davimenikov tries to lock up and control but Gonzalez gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Gonzalez is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Davimenikov can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Juan Gonzalez dominated that second round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! And we move into the final round!



Davimenikov has managed to clinch.

Davimenikov has hold of one of Gonzalez's legs. Gonzalez is fighting the takedown attempt but Davimenikov gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Davimenikov content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Gonzalez has locked up a guillotine! Gonzalez's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Davimenikov is holding on here and Gonzalez must be using up a lot of energy. Davimenikov has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Gonzalez gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:27 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Juan Gonzalez!
