PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Micha (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Damien Crosse (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Micha!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Damien Crosse!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Summer Carpenter and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Micha fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
A punch combination from Crosse misses.
Micha moves out of range as Crosse throws a body kick.
Micha misses with a kick to the body

and Crosse counters with a takedown into side control.
Micha is looking to reverse the position.
Micha regains half guard.
Micha really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Micha is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Crosse's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Crosse's back!
Crosse is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Micha.

Micha has the hooks in. Crosse is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Micha lands a punch to the side of the head from the back.
Micha will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Crosse is trapped and Micha is scoring with shots to the head and body.

Crosse tries to roll but Micha sticks to his back.

Micha has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Micha gets his hands free as Crosse looks to control.
Crosse manages to reverse the position and now he's in Micha's guard. Nice work there by Crosse.
Crosse won't allow Micha to sweep him here.
Micha throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Micha doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Crosse pushes down on Micha's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Micha wants to get back to his feet.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Micha scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Crosse manages to mount him!
Crosse takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Micha tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Micha wants to hold on but Crosse pushes him away.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Micha dominated that round.
That's time! Micha's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Crosse shoots in looking for a takedown. Micha tries to sprawl out of it but Crosse keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Micha manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

John Micha is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Crosse throws a nice looking combination but Micha bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Micha gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Crosse counters with a big head kick but Micha shrugs it off.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Micha. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
No luck for Crosse with that takedown attempt.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Crosse throws a head kick that misses.
Crosse closes the distance and clinches up with Micha, looking for a takedown. Crosse pushes Micha against the cage but Micha circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Micha shoots for a double leg takedown but Crosse sprawls well. He's pushed Micha's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Crosse lands with a slapping head kick.
Crosse shoots in but no luck this time.
Micha closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Crosse misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

and Crosse moves into the clinch.

Micha decides to pull guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Micha is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Micha is looking for a kimura but Crosse is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Micha to get the leverage.

Micha postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Crosse to stand up.

and Crosse counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Micha's guard now.

Micha has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Crosse can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Micha had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Crosse is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Micha Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Crosse's back instead.

Crosse manages to escape to a better position under a series of strikes. Micha is now in side control.
Micha throwing strikes but Crosse manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
Micha is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Crosse gets to mount! Micha was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Crosse controlling from mount.
Micha is desperately trying to improve his position but Crosse has a good base and remains in mount.
Crosse blocks Micha's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
Micha is squirming around, avoiding Crosse's attempts to control the action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Damien Crosse showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

and Crosse counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Micha is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Micha walks forward, straight into a front kick from Crosse.
Crosse shoots for a double leg takedown but Micha sprawls well. He's pushed Crosse's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Micha clinches but Crosse breaks the clinch

Micha is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Micha looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Crosse puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Crosse throws a head kick that misses.

and Crosse counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Micha!

Crosse wants to control the pace but Micha is squirming around nicely.

Micha slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Micha is trying to escape back to his feet but Crosse uses the scramble to pass into side control.
Micha is looking for a sweep.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Crosse takes advantage of some sloppy striking from Micha to pass into mount.
Crosse controlling his opponent.
Damien Crosse has got the better of the ground game so far.
Micha trying desperately to get to his feet.
Micha is wriggling around trying to escape.

And that's the end of the fight!
Damien Crosse comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Crosse has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
