PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jim Sterntz (ranked 6466 p4p, 603 weight class) and Christian Rio Laksa (ranked 8525 p4p, 678 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Jim Sterntz has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Jim Sterntz seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jim Sterntz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Christian Rio Laksa!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sterntz moves into the clinch successfully.
Rio Laksa letting Sterntz take a breather here.
Rio Laksa wants to take the fight to the mat but Sterntz manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Rio Laksa goes for a takedown attempt but Sterntz pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Rio Laksa gets tackled into the cage by Sterntz. Sterntz maintains the clinch.
Rio Laksa is trying to drag Sterntz to the mat but Sterntz just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Jim Sterntz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Christian Rio Laksa.

Sterntz swings wildly with an uppercut but Rio Laksa uses good head movement to avoid it.
Sterntz manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rio Laksa turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Sterntz is looking for a sweep.
Sterntz sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Sterntz is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Rio Laksa pulls his head out easily.

Rio Laksa is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Sterntz looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Rio Laksa pushes past his half guard into mount!
Sterntz has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.
Sterntz breaks Rio Laksa's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Sterntz slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Sterntz has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Sterntz is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Sterntz looking to sit in guard and control but Rio Laksa gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Sterntz is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Sterntz is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Rio Laksa is aware though and is defending well.

Sterntz bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Rio Laksa's guard.

Sterntz wants to control from the top but Rio Laksa keeps moving.
Sterntz throws an elbow that misses. Rio Laksa uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Sterntz's guard. Nice move by Rio Laksa!

Rio Laksa won't allow Sterntz to sweep him here.

Rio Laksa thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Rio Laksa wants to control from the top but Sterntz keeps moving.

Sterntz had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Rio Laksa defends it easily.

Sterntz has his foot on Rio Laksa's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rio Laksa works his way back into a safe position though.

Sterntz is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Rio Laksa avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Sterntz working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Rio Laksa doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Rio Laksa manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Sterntz pushes a forearm under Rio Laksa's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Rio Laksa is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
