PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bob Dole (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kristof Velez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dole comes to the cage accompanied by Tear Away by Drowning Pool. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bob Dole!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kristof Velez!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Daniel Franklin and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Velez misses the shot to the body.
Velez throws a sloppy head kick and Dole moves out of range easily.
Velez scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Dole lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Velez has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Velez and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Dole shoots in but no luck this time.
Dole tests Velez's chin there with a solid looking shot.


It looks like Kristof Velez has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Dole feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Velez's calf.

Velez fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Dole sprawls well initially but Velez persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Velez throws a leg kick but Dole sees it coming and moves out of range.

Velez closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Velez wants to free his trapped foot but Dole is holding on for dear life with his legs.

It looks like Velez is going to stand back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Dole lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Velez circles away quickly and effectively.
Dole is breathing heavily.
Dole lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Dole uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Velez.

Velez feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Dole working for a triangle but Velez defends it easily.
Dole is looking to stand up but Velez isn't so interested in that idea.
Dole has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Velez's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Dole tries to strike from the bottom.

Velez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Dole. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Dole throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Dole has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Velez can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Velez looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Velez wants to pass the guard but Dole is keeping the position.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Dole throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

Velez fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Velez has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Dole finds it's way round the side to connect with Velez's head.

Dole throws a head kick that misses.
Velez looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Dole is fending him off so far but Velez persists. Nope, Dole circles away and we're back to standing.

Velez scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

Bob Dole is winning the standup battle so far.
Velez is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Dole throws an overhand right that lands on Velez's shoulder, as Velez tries to avoid the shot.

Velez jabbing away but nothing is landing.
A telegraphed right hand from Dole misses the target.
Velez is looking to clinch.
Dole swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Velez.
Velez lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Velez looks to land a right hand but Dole moved out of range.
Dole scores with a body shot.
Bob Dole seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Velez steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Dole. That one must have hurt.
Dole shoots in but Velez avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Dole scores with a jab. Velez acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Dole takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Velez can do anything to dispel that myth.

Dole swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Velez is now in Dole's guard. A big mistake from Dole there, giving up the dominant position!

Dole wants to sweep but no luck.
Velez is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

I would just about give that final round to Kristof Velez.
I think Velez has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
