PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Arthur Halo (ranked 293 p4p, 40 weight class) and Vicente Lafayette (ranked 64 p4p, 10 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 24 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Arthur Halo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 26 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Vicente Lafayette!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, David Schapiro and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Halo fails with a takedown attempt.
Vicente Lafayette seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lafayette scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Halo goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Lafayette throws a sloppy head kick and Halo moves out of range easily.
Lafayette smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Halo on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Lafayette throws a poor cross that misses

and Halo decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Lafayette's guard.
Halo has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Halo thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Lafayette is looking for a triangle but Halo pushes his legs off easily.

Halo content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Lafayette escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Halo gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Halo with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Lafayette is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Halo is aware though and is defending well.

Halo got a little sloppy there for a moment and Lafayette has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Halo has managed to get both his arms back between Lafayette's legs - danger averted.

Lafayette had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Halo defends it easily.

Halo is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Lafayette is just riding it out for now. Halo eventually gives up the hold.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Lafayette is refusing to be controlled, as Halo sits in half guard.
Lafayette is looking to control Halo's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Lafayette avoid being mounted?
Lafayette is looking to improve his position.

Lafayette looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Lafayette moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Lafayette is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Halo's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Halo's back!

Halo makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Halo has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Halo connects with a nice short shot to Lafayette's temple.

Lafayette is staying active underneath Halo, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Lafayette has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Halo is proving hard to escape from.

Lafayette stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Halo swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Lafayette takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Halo, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
