Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Yoshihiro Takaya (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bret Hill (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Takaya comes to the cage accompanied by Jimi Hendrix - All along the Watchtower. Hill is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Wanted Dead Or Alive by Bon Jovi. Bret Hill is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Yoshihiro Takaya!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Bret Hill!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Ian Loll and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hill closes the distance and clinches.
Hill tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Takaya smiles and moves away.
Hill moves in looking to clinch but Takaya pushes him off.
Hill tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Takaya is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Hill.
Hill throws a one two combo.
Hill waving his hands out infront of him, looking to distract Takaya.
Hill lands with an uppercut that bounces Takaya off the cage and back into rage.
Hill looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Takaya keeps the fight on the outside.

Takaya has managed to clinch.
Hill misses with a knee strike.

Hill breaks from the clinch.
Hill smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Hill fails with a takedown attempt.
Takaya misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Hill.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Takaya changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Hill looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Takaya wants to control but Hill is keeping him busy.

Takaya wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Hill, who protects the arm well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hill is trying to buck Takaya off.
Hill tries to buck Takaya off but Takaya is having none of it.
Takaya working the head and body with strikes.
Takaya works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Takaya working the ground and pound from side control.
Hill is looking for a sweep.
Takaya will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Hill is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Takaya asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Hill stops Takaya from passing to mount.
Hill manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Takaya tries to roll over but Hill keeps him under control.

Hill is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Takaya sees it coming and defends easily.
Takaya is trying to get back to full guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Hill throws a right and a left that both miss.
Hill looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Hill jabs Takaya right on the nose. Takaya blinks but takes it well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hill moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Hill tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Takaya counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Hill's guard now.
Takaya scoring with punches to the head and body.

Hill looking for a guillotine here but Takaya defends easily.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Takaya trying to control but Hill is working from the bottom.
Takaya keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Hill's head.
Takaya is in close to Hill's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Hill looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Hill is looking for a triangle but Takaya pushes his legs off easily.
Hill looks gassed!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hill is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Takaya working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Hill's head.
Takaya trying to control the position from guard on top but Hill is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Takaya wants to pass the guard but Hill is keeping the position.
Takaya pushes down on Hill's leg and manages to get into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Takaya is keen to just control but Hill is a slippery customer.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Hill is looking to improve his position.
Takaya stops Hill from getting back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Yoshihiro Takaya dominated that round.

Hill closes the distance looking to clinch

and Takaya decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Hill's guard.
Hill wants to sweep here but Takaya controlling him for the moment.
Takaya trying to control but Hill is working from the bottom.
Takaya with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Hill keeping moving, preventing Takaya from controlling successfully.
Hill is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Hill is looking for a triangle but Takaya pushes his legs off easily.
Takaya landing with the ground and pound.

Hill escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Takaya gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Hill is breathing heavily.
Takaya postures up and lands a big shot to Hill's brow.
Takaya tries to free his leg and advance position but Hill is retaining full guard.
Takaya trying to control but Hill is working from the bottom.
Takaya won't allow Hill to get back to his feet.

Hill working for a triangle but Takaya defends it easily.

Hill has his foot on Takaya's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Takaya works his way back into a safe position though.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Takaya working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Takaya makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Hill is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Takaya stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hill swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Hill is wriggling around but Takaya manages to pass to half guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Takaya lands a nice short elbow.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hill looks like he's trying to stand up.
Takaya controlling the pace.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hill is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Takaya scores with a couple of nice shots.
The fighters are battling for position here. Hill manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Takaya accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Takaya advances to half guard.
Hill pushes Takaya off looking to stand but Takaya dives back in and keeps control.
Takaya lands with a punch from half guard.
Hill is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Takaya scores with a couple of nice shots.


Hill is rocked!
Yoshihiro Takaya overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Takaya is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Hill is still in real trouble! Can Takaya finish him?
Takaya lands with a punch from half guard.
Takaya is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Takaya in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.

Takaya prevents Hill from getting the reversal.
Takaya postures up and lands a whopping elbow - oh that's hurt Hill bigstyle! Two more strikes land for Takaya and the fight is over!
