PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jimmy Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Harold Penny packer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Penny packer comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Garden of Eden -- Guns n' Roses kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Harold Penny packer!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Robert Douchet and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jones moves into the clinch.

Jones breaks from the clinch.

Jones fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Penny packer, pushing him back against the cage.
Jones taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
Jones using the Thai clinch to land knees to the body.

Jones gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Penny packer regains guard.
Jones is fighting to break Penny packer's control of his arms but Penny packer is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Jones trying to control the position from guard on top but Penny packer is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Jones working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Jones forces his way into half guard.
Jones wants to stand but Penny packer has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Jones has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Penny packer is refusing to be controlled, as Jones sits in half guard.

Jones stands up out of the half guard.
Penny packer throws a right hand that Jones ducks under and follows up with a left that Jones also avoids with ease.
Jones connects with a nice looking jab.


It looks like Harold Penny packer has been cut.
Penny packer swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Jones gets the takedown into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jones controlling the position from side mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Penny packer wants to get back to his feet.
Penny packer looks gassed!
Jones moves into full mount!
Jones looking to control but Penny packer is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Penny packer tries to lock up and control but Jones gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Penny packer is squirming around, avoiding Jones's attempts to control the action.
Jones is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Jones is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Jimmy Jones.
Jones on the wrong end of a nice hook.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Jones shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Penny packer pinned against the cage. Penny packer gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Jones throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Jones drives through and clinches with Penny packer against the cage.
Jones just leaning against Penny packer, taking a breather.
Jones with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Knees to the body from Jones.
Jones fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Jones lands a nice knee to the body.

Jones breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Jones feints and as Penny packer raises his hands in defense, Jones changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Jones trying to control but Penny packer is working from the bottom.
Jones chips away with some ground and pound.
Jones throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Penny packer works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Penny packer is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jones tries to free his leg and advance position but Penny packer is retaining full guard.

Jones is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Penny packer is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Penny packer has escaped and now he's on top!
Jones trying to keep a closed guard but Penny packer is proving a slippery customer.
Jones looking for a sweep. Not yet Jones, not yet.
Jones wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Jones wants to sweep here but Penny packer controlling him for the moment.
Penny packer postures up.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Jones has an active guard here but Penny packer has managed to pass into half guard.
Penny packer wants to stand up but Jones is controlling the position.
Jones gets full guard.

Jones is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Jones has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Penny packer is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Jones.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jones tries to advance to mount but Penny packer denies him.

Jones lands an elbow.

Jones tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Jones has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Jones is looking to take a break and control but Penny packer is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Jimmy Jones overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Jones scoring with punches from side control.

Jones swings around for an armbar but Penny packer sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Jones's guard.
Jones wants to sweep here but Penny packer controlling him for the moment.

Jones looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Jimmy Jones showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Jones has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
