Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Greg Bell! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Patrick Thompson! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bell looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. Bell drives through and clinches with Thompson against the cage.
A short left from Thompson. Bell blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Thompson makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut. Bell tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Thompson smiles and moves away.
Thompson feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Bell's calf. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Bell feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Thompson has control of Bell's left arm, preventing Bell from doing any damage. Bell is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Bell preventing the sweep. Thompson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bell. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
That's one minute gone in the round. Thompson is trying to control the position but Bell postures up. Bell slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Thompson is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Bell dives into side control.

It looks like Patrick Thompson has been cut. Bell staying calm. Bell working the ground and pound but Thompson is defending the strikes. You can see the frustration on Thompson's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Bell takes a little break here. Thompson wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well. Thompson tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Bell wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bell lands an elbow. Bell controls the position. Thompson can't do much from the bottom here. Thompson might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Bell haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Bell tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Thompson is pushing Bell's head away, looking to escape. Bell manages to hold on to the position though. Thompson tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Bell wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Thompson being controlled for a moment. Bell landing strikes.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bell in side control, just content to control the action for now. Thompson tries to control but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad. Bell controlling his opponent. Bell looking to finish Thompson with some ground and pound. This is bad for Thompson! Bell is landing with some decent strikes but Thompson is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Bell tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Bell has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Thompson tries to get back to half guard but can't.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Bell working the ground and pound effectively.
We've been hearing good reports from Bell's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Bell dominating with strikes here. Thompson really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Bell takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Bell has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Bell lands a big shot to the head and Thompson winces in pain. He's tapped out due to strikes!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Greg Bell! Greg Bell really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that IniTech Nutrition logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
