Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ernest Graves (ranked 3203 p4p, 366 weight class) and Abdul Farooqi (ranked 3158 p4p, 0 weight class). Ernest Graves had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ernest Graves!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Abdul Farooqi!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Michael Johnstone and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Good exchange - Graves coming out on top.
Farooqi pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Farooqi fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Farooqi shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Graves is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at King Of Pain, so we'll see if he gets out of it.
Graves wants to improve his position but Farooqi is controlling well.
Graves is trying to maintain the position but Farooqi is very close to passing his half guard.
Graves tries to get to full guard but Farooqi has control of the leg.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Graves has a hand on Farooqi's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Farooqi takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

Farooqi really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Graves. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Graves bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Farooqi can do anything to dispel that myth.
Graves wants to lay and pray for a moment but Farooqi keeps working.
Farooqi has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Graves is working away from the top position though.
Farooqi is doing well to control the position and prevent Graves from advancing to side control.

That was a close round but I would say that Ernest Graves will probably get the nod.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

A little feinted left hand from Graves on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.

It looked like Graves wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Graves lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Graves changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.

Farooqi shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Graves throws a jab but it's blocked by Farooqi.
Horrible takedown attempt by Farooqi or perhaps it was just good defense by Graves, which made it look bad.

so Farooqi counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Graves bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Farooqi's guard.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Farooqi connects with a nice short shot to Graves's temple.
Well, if Farooqi is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Farooqi has hold of Graves's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Graves manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
