Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Juan Rodriguez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Takayuki Hamada! The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Bart Greer and Santiago Holmes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rodriguez stuffs the takedown. Rodriguez feinted with a counter takedown. Rodriguez closes the distance and clinches up with Hamada, looking for a takedown. Rodriguez pushes Hamada against the cage but Hamada circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Hamada throws a big counter head kick but Rodriguez avoids it with no problem. Rodriguez scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Rodriguez fails with a takedown attempt. Hamada is clearly looking to counter with head kicks. Hamada throws a jab but it's blocked by Rodriguez. Rodriguez looks for the body kick but Hamada saw that one coming. Hamada drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Rodriguez defends it well. Rodriguez shoots for a takedown but Hamada saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Juan Rodriguez. That's going to take a lot out of him. Hamada tries to clinch there but Rodriguez circles away.
Rodriguez appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hamada darts in looking for a takedown but Rodriguez gets double underhooks and turns Hamada into the cage. Rodriguez slaps away a takedown attempt from Hamada, before circling back to the center of the mat. Rodriguez shoots in looking for a takedown but Hamada manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Rodriguez's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
That's one minute gone in the round. The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Hamada checks a leg kick. Hamada is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own. Hamada misses with a wild body shot. Hamada gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Rodriguez counters by clinching up. Hamada blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. Rodriguez prevents the takedown attempt.

Rodriguez has Hamada pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Rodriguez pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Hamada tumbling to the mat - Rodriguez dives into Hamada's guard. Rodriguez showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hamada wants to stand and escape but Rodriguez is having none of it. Rodriguez controls from within his opponent's guard. Rodriguez looking to sit in guard and control but Hamada gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Hamada is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hamada stands and throws Rodriguez's legs to the side, diving into side control. Hamada advances nicely into full mount. Hamada throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Rodriguez because Hamada loaded up on that one. Hamada has isolated one of Rodriguez's arms. Rodriguez looking to fight him off but Hamada twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!
