PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Len Compton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Adam Baum (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Adam Baum will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Len Compton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Adam Baum!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Paul Tew and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Compton will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Compton looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Compton showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Baum.

Compton shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Compton stops Baum from standing up.
Compton postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Compton throwing strikes but missing.
Compton working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Baum is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Baum is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Baum wants to stand and escape but Compton is having none of it.
Baum is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Baum throws a one two combo.
Baum lands a nice leg kick that just misses Compton's sensitive parts.
Baum thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Compton if he has to take too many more of those.

Baum darts in and clinches Compton up against the cage.

Baum has hold of one of Compton's legs. Compton is fighting the takedown attempt but Baum gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Baum trying to control the position from guard on top but Compton is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Compton wants to improve his position but instead Baum has moved into half guard.
Compton tries to get to full guard but Baum has control of the leg.

Compton wants to get back to full guard but Baum has mounted him!
Baum controlling the pace for now.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Baum cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Compton flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
Compton working to try and regain half guard.
Baum looking to control and managing it successfully.
Compton tries to reverse the position but Baum maintains control.
Baum blocks Compton's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
Baum trying to control but he's not successful this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Adam Baum dominated that round.
That's time! Compton's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Baum lands a jab-cross combination.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Baum, right into the meat.
Baum feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Compton's calf.

Baum moves into the clinch.
Compton is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Baum wants the takedown. Compton is fighting it off but Baum persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Compton's guard against the cage.
Baum wants to get up but he can't break Compton's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Baum really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Compton. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Compton throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Baum stands up and waves to Compton to follow him.

Baum has taken the fight to the clinch.

Baum's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Baum misses with the combination.
Baum explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Baum throws a quick inside leg kick.
Baum lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Baum looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Compton not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Baum trying to control but Compton is working from the bottom.

Compton escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Baum gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Baum wants to stand but Compton has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Compton keeping moving, preventing Baum from controlling successfully.
Compton looking for a sweep. Not yet Compton, not yet.

Compton is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Compton is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Compton takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Baum fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Compton sprawls well initially but Baum persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Baum working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Compton is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Baum pulls his head out easily.

Compton is wriggling around trying to escape.
Compton tries to lock up and control but Baum gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Adam Baum showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Compton takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.

Baum darts in and clinches Compton up against the cage.
Compton goes for a takedown in the clinch but Baum prevents it.

Baum is trying to trip Compton. He has hold of a leg but Compton is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Baum persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Baum wants to pass the guard but Compton is keeping the position.
Baum is stalling in the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Compton working for a triangle but Baum defends it easily.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Baum is looking to stand up but Compton won't let him.

Compton is looking for a triangle but Baum pushes his legs off easily.
Baum is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Compton punching from the bottom - just letting Baum know he's still in a fight.
Compton striking off his back but it's not causing Baum any problems.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Baum fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Baum looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Baum seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Compton has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Baum has passed into side control.
Baum trying to control the action but Compton is working from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Baum stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Len Compton is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Compton feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Baum throws a nice elbow from the bottom.
Baum controls Compton momentarily but Compton frees himself.
Compton throws a strike but Baum rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Baum controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

And that's the end of the fight!
Adam Baum comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Baum has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3 rounds of action, we go to the scorecards for a decision.
