Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Michael Kimura! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chris Chandler! The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Valeri Chadov and Viktor Lagutenko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kimura closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Chandler to the mat! Chandler manages to get full guard. Kimura got a little sloppy there for a moment and Chandler has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kimura has managed to get both his arms back between Chandler's legs - danger averted. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Chandler is trying to hold Kimura in close to prevent damage but Kimura has managed to pass into half guard.
Kimura takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kimura has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. This is a sustained period of stalling by Kimura. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kimura stands up and beckons Chandler to join him on the feet. Chandler's corner calls for a 1-2. Chandler obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. Kimura scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Kimura passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Chandler! Kimura tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kimura working for a guillotine from mount but Chandler is in no mood to give up. Kimura controlling the pace for now. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Kimura seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Chandler for as long as he can get away with.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Chandler is mounted and he's throwing punches. Is that wise? Kimura seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Chandler is holding on tight.
Kimura controlling from mount. Kimura continues to hold on tight. Chandler is trying desperately to improve position. Kimura takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Chandler tries to hold on but Kimura pushes him away. Kimura with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Kimura controlling the position easily from mount. Chandler has given up his back.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Kimura has the hooks in. Chandler is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Michael Kimura dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
A punch combination from Chandler misses. Kimura changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit. Chris Chandler seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Kimura looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Kimura stands and throws Chandler's legs to the side, diving into side control. Kimura moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now. Chandler can't do much from the bottom here. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kimura is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kimura working away. Kimura just content to control the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Chandler struggling a bit here. Chandler is being controlled here. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Chandler looking for a sweep but Kimura has passed into full mount! Oh no! Kimura sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Kimura is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Chandler can do to turn this around?
That's three minutes gone in the round. Chandler tries to hold on but Kimura pushes him away. Chandler is trying to escape the mount but Kimura keeps good control and instead manages to take Chandler's back.
Kimura is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish. I really don't envy Chandler right now.
Kimura is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. Chandler has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but Kimura has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! Chandler taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. Kimura doesn't care though - he's delighted!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Michael Kimura! Chris Chandler spoke after the fight, saying 'Ok, no problem!'.
