PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Peyton Manning (ranked 788 p4p, 107 weight class) and Frank Martin (ranked 1016 p4p, 137 weight class). Manning comes to the cage accompanied by Jiu-Jitsu. Frank Martin has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Peyton Manning!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Frank Martin!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Eddie Farnsworth and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Manning shoots in looking for a takedown. Martin tries to sprawl out of it but Manning keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Martin manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Manning has been working on his balance at Big Price MMA, so perhaps that has help him stuff some of the takedown attempts by Martin.
A head kick from Martin lands but Manning takes it in his stride.

Manning closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Martin to the mat! Martin manages to get full guard.

Manning drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Manning jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Martin is looking to stand up but Manning isn't so interested in that idea.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Manning is fighting to break Martin's control of his arms but Martin is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Manning closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Manning seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Martin does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Martin is looking for a sweep. Manning is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Manning escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Martin gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

My spies in Heritage Gym inform me that Martin has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Manning wants to get back to full guard but Martin has passed into side control.

Frank Martin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Martin is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Manning's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Manning's back!

You can see the frustration on Manning's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Martin looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Martin got a little sloppy there for a moment and Manning has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Martin has managed to get both his arms back between Manning's legs - danger averted.
Manning not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Manning is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Martin must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Manning had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Martin defends it easily.

Manning escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Martin gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Manning can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Martin controls the pace.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Peyton Manning.
I think Manning has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
