Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jaime Lannister! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Monson Gleaves! The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Sosuke Kotani and Shigeki Fujiwara.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gleaves walks into a stiff left hand from Lannister. Lannister misses with a straight left. Gleaves drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Lannister defends it well. Lannister throws a series of punches but Gleaves moves out of range. Lannister lunges at Gleaves with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Gleaves's hand. Lannister will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Gleaves changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt. Gleaves darts in looking for a takedown but Lannister gets double underhooks and turns Gleaves into the cage. Gleaves shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Lannister but Lannister pushes him off and we're back to square one. Gleaves looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Lannister is fending him off so far but Gleaves persists. Nope, Lannister circles away and we're back to standing. Gleaves's coach down at Rabid Dog was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Gleaves's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight. Jaime Lannister has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Monson Gleaves. Lannister jabs Gleaves to the body, keeping him at a distance. Gleaves darts in looking for a takedown but Lannister gets double underhooks and turns Gleaves into the cage. Lannister connects with a right hand. Gleaves shakes it off. Lannister has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Heart Cave (8 elites, 4 double-elites, 1 triple) in the buildup to the fight. Lannister keeps the fight on the outside. Gleaves closes the distance and clinches up with Lannister, looking for a takedown. Gleaves pushes Lannister against the cage but Lannister circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Lannister misses with a series of wild punches.
A jab from Lannister finds it's way through Gleaves's defenses. Gleaves shoots in for a double leg but Lannister sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Lannister paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button. Lannister with a body punch. A glancing blow.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gleaves doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Gleaves with a poor takedown and Lannister counters with a nice uppercut. Lannister fakes a right and follows up with a big left that drops Gleaves to one knee - oooooh, he's wobbly! Gleaves looks to clinch but Lannister throws him off and pummels him into the canvas! Gleaves taps out under the strikes! The fight is over!
