We've been informed that Mendez has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Mendez thuds a left hand into Pate's body.

Pate takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

Pate is looking to wear down Mendez with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.

Mendez looks to land a combination but Pate avoids it well.
Mendez moves out of range of the body kick from Pate.

Mendez throws a jab but it's blocked by Pate.

A looping hook to the body misses from Pate. Mendez does a little dance to reset his feet.
Pate fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Mendez.

Mendez throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Mendez throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Pate avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Mendez tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Pate was well out of range. Poor timing from Mendez.

Mendez throws a right and a left that both miss.
Pate lands a really nice looking cross but Mendez seems unphased.
A decent looking cross lands there for Pate.
Pate keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Pate looks to score with a jab to the body but Mendez is just out of range.
Pate throws a front kick aimed at Mendez's knee but Mendez avoids it well.
Pate throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Mendez.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

An inside leg kick lands from Pate.

Pate cracks Mendez with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Mendez tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Pate pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Mendez is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:08 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Murha Pate!
Our winner, Murha Pate, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
