Coming up we have a bantamweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Rodney Smith (ranked 2257 p4p, 62 weight class) and Gaia Ky Jr (ranked 2172 p4p, 259 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the bantamweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 2 wins and 0 losses; Rodney Smith! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Montreal, with a TWGC record of 5 wins and 8 losses; Gaia Ky Jr! The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, James Glass and Richard Clark.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Ky Jr clinches with his opponent.
Ky Jr is trying to pull guard but Smith turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. Ky Jr fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Ky Jr keeping moving, preventing Smith from controlling successfully. Smith tries to free his leg and advance position but Ky Jr is retaining full guard. Ky Jr looking to control.
Smith trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Smith pushing down on Ky Jr's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Smith is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Ky Jr defends it well. Ky Jr is pressing down on Smith's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Ky Jr is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Smith works a leg free and moves into half guard. Ky Jr has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Smith is working away from the top position though. Smith wants to take a breather but Ky Jr is having none of it. Smith is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Ky Jr is just riding it out for now. Smith eventually gives up the hold. Ky Jr looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Smith is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at School of Hard Knocks that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet. Smith stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ky Jr swivels though and keeps the full guard. Smith being controlled here momentarily. Smith thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Ky Jr bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. That's four minutes gone in the round. Smith has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Ky Jr can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Smith keeping moving, preventing Ky Jr from controlling successfully. Ky Jr got a little sloppy there for a moment and Smith has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ky Jr has managed to get both his arms back between Smith's legs - danger averted. Smith is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Ky Jr defends well. Smith is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Ky Jr is aware though and is defending well. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Ky Jr forces his way into half guard.

Smith has his hands clasped together but Ky Jr breaks the hold and Smith is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Ky Jr!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 5:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Gaia Ky Jr! Gaia Ky Jr bigged himself up after the win. The crowd seemed to love it. Rodney Smith spoke after the fight, saying 'I would like a rematch. I messed up the flight times getting here and I think that played a factor in my performance.'. |
