Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sasaki Shinji (ranked 4761 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paulo Miranda (ranked 6202 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Sasaki Shinji!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Paulo Miranda!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Sandra Marshall and Winston Alpacca.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shinji fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Shinji looks to throw the jab but Miranda is out of range.
Miranda shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Shinji pinned against the cage. Shinji gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Shinji gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Miranda to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Shinji is pulling down on Miranda's head. It's preventing any offense from Miranda, at least for the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Shinji looking for a sweep. Not yet Shinji, not yet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Miranda trying to control the position from guard on top but Shinji is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Miranda throws a strike but Shinji rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Shinji throws a big elbow that misses.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Miranda bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Shinji's guard.

Miranda tries to free his leg and advance position but Shinji is retaining full guard.
Shinji wants to sweep here but Miranda controlling him for the moment.
Shinji has Miranda pulled in close to control his posture.
Miranda trying to control but Shinji is working from the bottom.
Miranda is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Shinji looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Shinji working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Miranda has passed into half guard!
Shinji controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Shinji is looking to escape.

Miranda is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Shinji has managed to free his arm - good work.
Shinji makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Shinji.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Shinji wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Miranda tries to stand but Shinji is controlling from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Shinji is trying hard to land a takedown here. Miranda sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Shinji misses with a few strikes there.
A little jabbing left from Miranda on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Shinji misses with a double jab.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Miranda.
Shinji ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Miranda moves away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Sasaki Shinji will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Shinji avoids the head kick by Miranda.

Shinji closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Shinji lands in his opponent's guard.

Shinji passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Shinji working the ground and pound.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shinji is chipping away with strikes.
Shinji remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Shinji has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Shinji is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Miranda can do to turn this around?
Shinji advances to full mount.
Miranda is wriggling around trying to escape.
Miranda is breathing heavily.
Miranda wants to hold on but Shinji pushes him away.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Shinji takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Miranda can't escape the position.
Shinji looking to control and managing it successfully.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Miranda regains half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Shinji controlling the action here.
Shinji tries to pass to full mount but Miranda defends it.
Shinji is figuring out what he wants to do next.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Shinji closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Miranda did well to prevent Shinji getting side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sasaki Shinji dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Miranda keeps the fight on the outside.
As Shinji backs off Miranda throws a huge counter combo but Shinji manages to avoid it all.
Shinji moves out of range as Miranda throws a body kick.

Miranda gets caught flat footed, as Shinji shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Shinji controls from within his opponent's guard.
Shinji is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Shinji controlling from the top position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Shinji lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Shinji passes into half guard.
Shinji wants to take a breather but Miranda is having none of it.
Shinji trying to control the pace.
Shinji seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Miranda wants to control but Shinji is keeping busy.
Shinji content to control rather than advance.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Miranda fails in his attempt to clinch.

Miranda tries to keep at a distance but Shinji has taken the fight into the clinch.
Miranda stalls.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Miranda escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Miranda bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Nice sprawl there from Miranda as Shinji shoots in.
Shinji closes the distance and clinches up with Miranda, looking for a takedown. Shinji pushes Miranda against the cage but Miranda circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Shinji slips a jab and a cross from Miranda.

Shinji gets the takedown into side control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Shinji working away.
Shinji has control of an arm but Miranda manages to advance to Shinji's back!
Shinji turns into Miranda and is now in his guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Shinji slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Shinji content to stall in guard here.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Sasaki Shinji.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Shinji, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
