PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Uri Gellar (ranked 268 p4p, 39 weight class) and Daniel Sainty (ranked 1090 p4p, 133 weight class). Gellar comes to the cage accompanied by James Randi exposes Uri Geller. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
21 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Uri Gellar! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Daniel Sainty! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gellar feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Sainty's calf. Gellar attempts a low kick but it misses it's target. Sainty drives through with a takedown into guard. Sainty sitting in guard, not really doing much. Gellar is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Sainty tries to free his leg and advance position but Gellar is retaining full guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sainty pushing down on Gellar's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Gellar tries to get to full guard but Sainty has control of the leg. Sainty seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Gellar does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Gellar controlling the position well. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Sainty controlling the action here.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Gellar misses with a body punch
and Sainty counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Gellar tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Sainty drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Gellar defends it well. Sainty throws an overhand right that lands on Gellar's shoulder, as Gellar tries to avoid the shot. Uri Gellar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Sainty shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Sainty was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Gellar tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Sainty presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount! Gellar is in all sorts of trouble here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sainty trying to control but he's not successful this time. Gellar is looking to improve his position but Sainty isn't that keen on the idea. Sainty wants to control the pace but Gellar is squirming around nicely. Sainty moves to take his opponent's back. Sainty is not going to allow Gellar to sit and survive in this position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Sainty controlling well, preventing Gellar from escaping the position.
Gellar preventing the rear naked choke attempt from Sainty. Sainty tries to keep control of the position but Gellar is staying busy. Sainty has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Gellar has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Sainty avoiding Gellar 's attempts to control his hands. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Daniel Sainty dominated that round. That's time! Back to the action!
Gellar missing with a left hand there. Sainty was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Sainty defending well as Gellar loads up on a big left hand. Sainty is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here. Sainty keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Sainty only half commits to the counter leg kick. Sainty avoids the body shot from Gellar.
Sainty ducks under a wild hook from Gellar. Gellar throws a jab when Sainty was well out of range. A chopping leg kick lands by Gellar. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. No joy there for Gellar, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Gellar misses with a straight right. Gellar looks to throw the jab but Sainty is out of range. Gellar is really struggling to find his range with his punches. Sainty's reach advantage is clearly causing him problems.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gellar lands a nice hook to Sainty's body. Sainty takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Sainty uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Gellar. Gellar gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Sainty wants to control from the top but Gellar keeps moving. Gellar controlling Sainty's posture. Sainty has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sainty pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Gellar is keeping the position for now. Sainty trying to control the position from guard on top but Gellar is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Sainty is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Gellar pulls Sainty in to control the position.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sainty dives in for a single leg takedown but Gellar sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. An attempted straight right counter from Gellar misses the target. Sainty pushes Gellar up against the cage in a clinch. Gellar digs a right hand underneath Sainty's ribcage. Sainty let out a lung full of air as it connected. Sainty misses with a punch to the body.
Sainty is looking for a takedown. Gellar lands with a right to the head. Sainty taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
Gellar pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Uri Gellar is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Sainty will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Sainty takes one on the button.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Sainty displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Gellar throws out the jab. Sainty tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Sainty moves into the clinch. Sainty is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Gellar. Gellar has a couple of punches blocked by Sainty.
Gellar misses with a short punch on the inside. Gellar lands a shot to the body. Gellar tries to throw a body punch but Sainty avoids it by throwing Gellar back against the cage. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Sainty has Gellar pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Gellar manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Uri Gellar has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Daniel Sainty. Gellar tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. Gellar gets through Sainty's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Uri Gellar dominated that second round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!
Crack! A monster head kick from Gellar and Sainty falls like a tree - timbeeeeeeeeeeerrrr! A highlight reel knockout by Gellar!

A very excited looking Uri Gellar made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
