PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Samuel Gervais (ranked 855 p4p, 97 weight class) and Wale Ammond (ranked 1257 p4p, 142 weight class). Gervais comes into the arena with Arcade Fire - Ready to Start blaring out of the sound system. Ammond is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Bad. Wale Ammond is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Wale Ammond!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ammond shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Gervais defends it nicely.
Ammond tries to clinch but Gervais moves out of range.
Ammond has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Gervais is landing a low percentage of strikes.

It looks like Wale Ammond has been cut.

Ammond shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Gervais napping and manages to drive through into side control!
You can see the frustration on Gervais's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Ammond goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Gervais has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Ammond but great work by Gervais.

Gervais misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Ammond sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Ammond has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Gervais is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Ammond.

That's time! Gervais's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Ammond feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Horrible takedown attempt by Ammond or perhaps it was just good defense by Gervais, which made it look bad.
Gervais throws the kick towards the body but Ammond avoids it.

and Gervais counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Samuel Gervais has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wale Ammond.
Ammond shoots in for a double leg but Gervais sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Ammond is absolutely dripping with sweat - he looks exhausted.

Gervais thuds his shin into the meat of Ammond's side.
Gervais throws a shot to the body.
Gervais throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Ammond throws a low kick, looking for Gervais's leg but Gervais calmly moves out of range.
Gervais moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Gervais throws a right and a left that Ammond avoids nicely.
Gervais cracks Ammond with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.


Ammond is rocked!
A head kick by Gervais - that's a beauty! Ammond is out but he's somehow still standing... he's going... going... gone. Like a drunk walking down the middle of the road, the inevitable face plant follows and the delayed knockout arrives. Even Gervais can't help but laugh at the bizarre end to this one!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:39 of round 4, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Samuel Gervais!
