Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Chief Bear! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Rafael Oreiro! The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Bart Greer and Winston Alpacca.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Horrible takedown attempt by Bear or perhaps it was just good defense by Oreiro, which made it look bad. Oreiro looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it. Bear shoots in for a double leg but Oreiro sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Oreiro lands a jab to Bear's midsection. Bear misses with a takedown attempt and Oreiro counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chief Bear. That's going to take a lot out of him. Bear bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Oreiro pushes Bear away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Bear gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. Bear working the ground and pound. Bear cracks Oreiro with an elbow. That is naaassty. Bear cracks Oreiro with a big right hand but Oreiro just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Oreiro wants to control but Bear postures up. Bear cracks Oreiro with a big elbow. Bear scoring with punches and elbows. Oreiro really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bear. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Bear in side control lands a decent elbow. Oreiro wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done! Bear landing with strikes to the head and body from side control. Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground! Oreiro is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bear working the ground and pound. Bear looks up at the clock and then as Oreiro takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Bear smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Bear lands a decent elbow from side control.
Oreiro is rocked! Bear in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Oreiro is still in real trouble! Can Bear finish him? Bear working the head and body with strikes. A big shot lands for Bear! That's hurt Oreiro! Will he recover? Bear fires away with more strikes and the referee has to step in to stop the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:38 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Chief Bear! In his post fight interview, Chief Bear started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
