Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paul Patton (ranked 25375 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Jones (ranked 6041 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Paul Patton! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mike Jones! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Stewart Dunkirk and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Patton. Jones looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Patton is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Jones decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Jones gets in close and instigates a clinch. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Jones wants the takedown. Patton is fighting it off but Jones persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Patton's guard against the cage. Jones stopping the sweep attempt from Patton. Patton keeping moving, preventing Jones from controlling successfully. Patton could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
That's one minute gone in the round. Patton is working an open guard so Jones takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Jones shoots in and bounces Patton off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Patton working a defensive guard here.
Jones stands and steps away. Patton gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Patton moves out of range of the body kick from Jones.
Patton has a takedown stuffed. Patton fails in his attempt to clinch. Jones appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jones shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Patton is trying to defend but Jones finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Jones seems to be looking for submissions.

Jones postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Patton to stand up. No luck with that takedown attempt from Patton. Jones doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Paul Patton. That's going to take a lot out of him. Jones clinches.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Patton is trying to pull guard but Jones turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. Jones jumps into guard, dragging Patton to the mat.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Patton sitting in guard, not really doing much. Patton has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Patton missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Patton throws a big elbow that misses. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Jones lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard. Patton looking to hit a scissor sweep but Jones is one step ahead there. Jones in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Jones is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Patton doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mike Jones dominated that round. That's time! Back to the action!
Patton shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Jones defends it nicely. Patton doesn't succeed with the takedown and Jones counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Jones. Jones breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Jones lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
It looks like Paul Patton has been cut. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Jones closes the distance and clinches. Jones lands a knee to the head.
Jones escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Patton misses with a takedown attempt - Jones sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Paul Patton. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's one minute gone in the round. The fight moves into the clinch position. Jones's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Jones drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Patton has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Jones has passed into side control.
Mike Jones has got the better of the ground game so far. Patton manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Jones looking for submissions off his back. Jones is staying active underneath Patton, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Patton is really struggling to control Jones but he's trying to hold on to the position. Jones is controlling Patton's trapped leg to prevent Patton from advancing to side control. Jones gets full guard. Jones trying to strike off his back.

Patton keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Jones's head.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jones avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Patton drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Jones dives on top into guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Jones slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. You can see the frustration on Patton's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Jones lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Patton down.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Jones tries for a kimura but Patton is defending well. Jones has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Jones closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Patton did well to prevent Jones getting side control. Patton has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Jones is working away from the top position though. Jones is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Mike Jones showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The cut man is working on Paul Patton's cut. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!
Jones gets a clinch. Jones has hold of one of Patton's legs. Patton is fighting the takedown attempt but Jones gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard. The fighters are working up against the cage. Patton manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage. Jones tightens his grip and picks Patton up, before dumping him to the ground. Patton manages to land in guard. Jones wants to control from the top but Patton keeps moving. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Jones looking to pass the guard. Patton is adopting a defensive guard. Jones has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Patton working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Jones.

Jones stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Patton swivels though and keeps the full guard. Patton trying to control the position here.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Jones throws a head kick but Patton moves out of range.
A low kick from Jones is predictable there and Patton counters with a nice double leg into side control. Jones won't be happy with that. Jones throws Patton to one side and escapes! Paul Patton is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Jones takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Patton displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Jones throws out the jab. As Jones looks to move away, Patton throws a big counter combo but Jones just gets out of the way. Jones scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Patton is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Jones's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Jones's back!

Patton throwing lazy shots from the back mount that aren't doing any damage. Patton has the hooks in. Jones is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted. Jones looking very determined here, making life difficult for Patton.
I really don't envy Jones right now.
Jones trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble. Patton controlling the position well here. Jones rolled but Patton kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Patton lands punches and elbows. So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
Patton is working the ground and pound. Can Jones escape? Jones tries to break free.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. The referee is taking a good look at Jones as he is on the wrong end of some big shots from Patton!

And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Paul Patton. Well Jones has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality.
