Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Thomas Rowlands!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Billy Batts!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Eddie Farnsworth and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Batts closes this distance looking for a takedown but Rowlands circles away.

Batts darts in and clinches Rowlands up against the ropes.

Batts drags the fight down to the ground.
Rowlands controlling from the top position.
Batts lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Rowlands wants to stand and escape but Batts is having none of it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rowlands is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Batts wants to control from the top but Rowlands keeps moving.

Rowlands is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Batts pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Rowlands is keeping the position for now.

Rowlands really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Batts postures up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Rowlands is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Batts has Rowlands up against the ropes in a clinch.

Rowlands manages to break the clinch.
Batts throws a sloppy head kick and Rowlands moves out of range easily.
Rowlands misses with a low kick.
Rowlands goes for a double leg but Batts avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the ropes as Batts continues to drive forward.
Rowlands shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Batts pinned against the ropes. Batts gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Batts unleashes a big counter combination but Rowlands bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.

Batts feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Rowlandss jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Batts fails with an attempt to clinch.
Batts slaps away a takedown attempt from Rowlands, before circling back to the center of the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Thomas Rowlands. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Rowlands tries to clinch there but Batts circles away.
Batts dives in for a single leg takedown but Rowlands sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the ropes.
Batts takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
Batts has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Batts looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Rowlands moves in looking to clinch but Batts pushes him off.
Batts tries to counter by closing the distance.
Rowlands takes a shot to the body in his stride.

Rowlands fails with a takedown attempt.
Rowlands is breathing heavily.
Batts checks a leg kick.
Batts lands a head kick!


It looks like Thomas Rowlands has been cut.
Some wild striking there from Batts.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Batts tries to move into range but Rowlands moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Batts fails with a takedown attempt.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Rowlands gets the takedown into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Rowlands closes this distance looking for a takedown but Batts circles away.
As Rowlands backs off Batts throws a huge counter combo but Rowlands manages to avoid it all.
Batts shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Rowlands as he avoids it easily.
Batts shoots in looking for a takedown but Rowlands manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Batts's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
It looked like Rowlands was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Rowlands moves out of range as Batts throws a body kick.
Rowlands misses with a takedown attempt - Batts sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Batts throws out a counter right but Rowlands avoids it with no problem.
Rowlands lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Rowlands shoots in but no luck this time.

Batts changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Rowlands tries to avoid it but Batts manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Rowlands to the ground. Rowlands escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Batts has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Rowlands tries to clinch up against the ropes, rushing in to close the distance. Batts manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Rowlands wants to control but Batts is keeping him busy.
Rowlands is really struggling to control Batts but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Batts is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Rowlands is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Batts is controlling Rowlands's position as best he can from this difficult position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Batts drives through with a takedown into guard.
Rowlands pulls Batts in close to prevent any damage.

Rowlands is refusing to be controlled, as Batts sits in half guard.
Batts trying to mount his opponent but Rowlands defends it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Rowlands trying to get back to full guard but Batts takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!

Billy Batts showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Batts is looking to control Rowlands's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Batts avoid being mounted?

Batts is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Rowlands pulls his head out easily.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Batts drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Rowlands trying to stall but Batts improves his position.

Batts breaks from the clinch.

Rowlands moves into the clinch.

Batts's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Batts tries a low kick but Rowlands avoids it.
Rowlands leaves Batts with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Thomas Rowlands has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Billy Batts.

I would just about give that final round to Billy Batts.
I've got Batts winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
