Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Adrian Meneghetti! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Charles Anderson! The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Bart Greer and Winston Alpacca.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Meneghetti looks to land a body kick but Anderson moved away. Anderson keeps the fight on the outside. Meneghetti tries to clinch but Anderson moves out of range. Anderson closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Meneghetti has had enough of the clinch but Anderson keeps him there for the moment. Anderson lands with a good tight uppercut to the head. Anderson is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Anderson has Meneghetti pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Anderson pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Meneghetti tumbling to the mat - Anderson dives into Meneghetti's guard. Meneghetti not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Anderson throwing strikes from guard but Meneghetti blocks nicely. Anderson is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
That's one minute gone in the round. Anderson throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Meneghetti works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Anderson seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Anderson throws a big elbow that misses. Anderson with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Meneghetti isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Anderson stacks Meneghetti on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Anderson! You can see the frustration on Meneghetti's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Anderson has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Anderson is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position. Anderson has hold of Meneghetti's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Meneghetti tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Anderson cranks the arm and Meneghetti screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Meneghetti, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Charles Anderson!
