Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Matthew Sochek (ranked 5800 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chuck Pennilla (ranked 5043 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Matthew Sochek! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Chuck Pennilla! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Dirk Anderson and Santiago Holmes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pennilla fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Pennilla shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Sochek defends it nicely. Pennilla wants to clinch up but Sochek keeps it at a distance. Pennilla shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Sochek napping and manages to drive through into side control! Pennilla in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Sochek is trying to escape the position but Pennilla is controlling the position. Pennilla wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sochek keeps working. Pennilla has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Pennilla is trying to get an arm triangle but Sochek is defending well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sochek can't do much from the bottom here. Sochek takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. Sochek tries to buck Pennilla off but Pennilla is having none of it. Sochek isn't going anywhere. Pennilla is looking to take a break and control but Sochek is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Sochek tries to bench press Pennilla off him but Pennilla keeps the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Pennilla working away. Sochek is looking to regain half guard here but Pennilla keeps moving and retains side control. Pennilla working away. Pennilla working the head with strikes. No luck for Pennilla with that takedown attempt. Sochek went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected. Matthew Sochek has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chuck Pennilla. Pennilla looks for a takedown but Sochek sprawls well. Pennilla rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Sochek moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Sochek throws a series of punches but Pennilla avoids them all with ease. Matthew Sochek is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Sochek misses with the combination.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A left and a right from Sochek both land. Nice combination. Pennilla tries to score a power double leg takedown but Sochek sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Pennilla somewhat. Pennilla misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Sochek scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

Danga de danga de dang - Sochek scores with a four punch combination! Pennilla shoots and misses and Sochek counters with a left and a right that stings Pennilla. Pennilla fails with the takedown and Sochek counters with a lovely straight right hand! Pennilla wants to clinch up but Sochek keeps it at a distance. Pennilla throws a head kick but Sochek moves out of range.

Pennilla tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Sochek counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work. Sochek lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Sochek. Pennilla shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Sochek as he avoids it easily. Pennilla is breathing heavily. Sochek throws a right and a left that Pennilla avoids nicely. Pennilla with a poor takedown and Sochek counters by moving into the clinch. Pennilla breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Sochek rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Pennilla moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Sochek is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Pennilla can do to turn this around?
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sochek will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Pennilla is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Sochek. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Pennilla changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Sochek looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Sochek wants to get back to his feet but Pennilla drags him back down. Sochek is holding Pennilla down, trying to stall. Sochek struggling a bit here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Pennilla trying to control the position but Sochek is working away. Sochek manages to get back to half guard. Sochek holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now. Sochek wants to control but Pennilla is keeping busy.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Pennilla shoots for a takedown but Sochek saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Pennilla needs to keep his hands up - Sochek had a free shot at his head there. Pennilla doesn't manage to clinch there - Sochek circles away.

Horrible takedown attempt by Pennilla or perhaps it was just good defense by Sochek, which made it look bad. Sochek half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range. Matthew Sochek has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chuck Pennilla. Pennilla shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Sochek counters with a one-two to the body. Pennilla takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Sochek thuds a left hand into Pennilla's body.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Pennilla shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Sochek pinned against the cage. Sochek gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Sochek throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Pennilla misses with a takedown attempt and Sochek counters by clinching up. Pennilla pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Pennilla closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. Pennilla shoots in looking for a takedown but Sochek manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Pennilla's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Sochek stuffs the takedown attempt from Pennilla. Pennilla gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sochek moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body. Pennilla throws a sloppy head kick and Sochek moves out of range easily. Sochek fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Sochek looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Pennilla wants to counter with a clinch but Sochek pushes him away. Pennilla dodges the punch combination from Sochek.
Pennilla is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own. Pennilla gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily letting Sochek counter with a right hand.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Sochek works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance. Pennilla tries to score a power double leg takedown but Sochek sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Pennilla somewhat. Pennilla has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Sochek finds it's way round the side to connect with Pennilla's head. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Sochek misses with a wild combination.
And that's the end of the fight! Matthew Sochek showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Sochek, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
