Coming up we have a heavyweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Fahad Al Qarni (ranked 1299 p4p, 142 weight class) and Ewen Davis (ranked 322 p4p, 31 weight class). Al Qarni comes to the ring accompanied by Hells Bells. Davis has chosen Atreyu-Ex's and oh's as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 10 wins and 6 losses; Fahad Al Qarni! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, with a TWGC record of 7 wins and 2 losses; Ewen Davis! The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Saam Ante and Patrick Alders.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Al Qarni fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Davis avoids it really well and circles away. Al Qarni goes for a double leg but Davis avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the ropes as Davis continues to drive forward. Davis gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Davis can't get the takedown.
Al Qarni is pressed up against the ropes. Davis has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Al Qarni down to the mat. Al Qarni avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Al Qarni shoots in and drives through. Davis sprawls well. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Fahad Al Qarni. That's going to take a lot out of him. The fight moves into the clinch position. Davis is trying to trip Al Qarni. He has hold of a leg but Al Qarni is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Davis persists though and gets the takedown into guard. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Davis is persistently looking for the submission but Al Qarni is defending it well.

You can see the frustration on Al Qarni's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Davis might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Al Qarni haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Al Qarni seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Davis does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Davis moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Al Qarni is wriggling around here but as he tries to escape, Davis has taken his back.

Davis is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully. Al Qarni is trying to control Davis's posture but Davis avoids it. Davis wants to lay and pray for a moment but Al Qarni keeps working.

Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Al Qarni manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Al Qarni tries to get to full guard but Davis has control of the leg. Well,Al Qarni is on his way to losing a decision here. Can he use his experience to pull something off in the closing minutes?
That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Davis is trying to control the action in half guard but Al Qarni is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Davis is looking for a kimura here.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Davis wants to work for an arm triangle but Al Qarni is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Davis slows the pace down in half guard. Davis wants to advance to full mount but Al Qarni doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Davis controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Al Qarni wants to sweep here but Davis controlling him for the moment. Davis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Al Qarni swivels though and keeps the full guard. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Al Qarni is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
And that's the end of the fight! Davis wins on points by 21 to 4. After winning the bout, Ewen Davis thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility. |
