Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Borrachinha Costa (ranked 3924 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pedro Morte (ranked 8385 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Borrachinha Costa ! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Pedro Morte ! The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Bart Greer and Dirk Anderson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Morte lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Pedro Morte seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Costa takes one on the button. Morte swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Morte 's coach down at Island Safe Space was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Morte 's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight. Morte cracks Costa with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. Morte missing with a left hand there. Costa was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Morte moves away from the strike by Costa . Morte wants to counter the offense by Costa and move into the clinch position. Costa on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. Costa shoots in for a takedown but Morte shows good takedown defense. Morte throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Costa counters with a single leg into guard. Morte didn't expect that. Costa works over Morte with some ground and pound from guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Morte working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Costa . Costa in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Costa missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Costa has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Morte working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Costa . A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Costa accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Costa stops Morte from standing up. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Costa connects with a couple of short punches. Costa is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Costa missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Costa working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Costa postures up.
Costa tries to free his leg and advance position but Morte is retaining full guard. Costa throws a big right hand that misses. Costa drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Costa jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Costa throwing strikes but missing. Costa landing with the ground and pound. Costa keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Morte 's head.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Costa in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Morte is looking to stand up but Costa isn't so interested in that idea. Costa wants to control from the top but Morte keeps moving. Costa might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Morte has momentary wrist control but Costa slips an elbow through the middle. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Costa 's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Costa works over Morte with some ground and pound from guard. Costa pushing down on Morte 's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Morte really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Costa . If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Costa lands with a punch from half guard. Costa drops an elbow to the side of Morte 's head. This has been an exciting period of action! Morte wants to improve his position but Costa is controlling well.
Costa wants to take a breather but Morte is having none of it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Costa looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Costa thows a huge punch but Morte dodges it nicely.
Costa is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Morte ! Morte keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Costa lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Costa raining down hammerfists from mount. Costa scoring with strikes but Morte is staying in there. Morte is wriggling around trying to escape.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Costa avoids the attempt from Morte to control. Costa lands a heavy elbow. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Costa trying to control but he's not successful this time. Costa raining down shots from the mount! Morte is bucking up trying to escape but Costa cracks him with another couple of good strikes. The referee warns Morte that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Costa lands a big shot there that rocks Morte but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Costa looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Morte is rocked! Costa cracks Morte with a big head shot that has him covering up instantly! He's rolled onto his side and the referee has seen enough - this one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Borrachinha Costa !
