Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
24 - 20 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, The Steel Penn! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Enda OSullivan! The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Ryoma Takatsuka and Colin Fray.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! OSullivan fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Steel Penn scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard. Nice takedown defense from Steel Penn. No joy for OSullivan on that attempt. OSullivan tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Steel Penn counters with a shoot takedown. OSullivan fights it but they end up in guard. OSullivan wants to get back to his feet but Steel Penn passes into half guard.
Steel Penn decides to stand and escape the position. Steel Penn cracks the inside of OSullivan's front leg.
That's one minute gone in the round. OSullivan misses with a takedown attempt and Steel Penn counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena. The Steel Penn has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Enda OSullivan. Steel Penn lands a nice leg kick that just misses OSullivan's sensitive parts. OSullivan tries to clinch but fails miserably and Steel Penn counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. OSullivan wants to get back to his feet but Steel Penn passes into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. It looks like Steel Penn is going to stand back up.
We've been hearing good reports from Steel Penn's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Steel Penn gets to his feet - back to striking we go! OSullivan shoots and misses and Steel Penn counters with a slapping leg kick. OSullivan looks winded! BOOM! Steel Penn lands a beautiful left hook that drops OSullivan. OSullivan tries to recover but Steel Penn is having none of it, landing more punishing shots from mount. One final crushing shot and OSullivan lies motionless on the canvas. The fight is over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). The Steel Penn! Our winner, The Steel Penn, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
