PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kennith Klein (ranked 6887 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Marven (ranked 6171 p4p, 0 weight class). John Marven told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Kennith Klein! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, John Marven! The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Daniel Blasius and Saam Ante.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Marven goes for a double leg but Klein avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Klein continues to drive forward. Klein decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Marven wants to get back to full guard. Klein will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Marven is looking to control Klein's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Marven avoid being mounted? Marven has hold of Klein's hands but Klein slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Marven is trying to maintain the position but Klein is very close to passing his half guard. Marven kicks off Klein and gets to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Marven clinches with his opponent.
Marven ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Marven no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Marven isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Klein stacks Marven on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Klein! Marven struggling a bit here. Klein stands up. Klein darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Klein thows a huge punch but Marven dodges it nicely.
Marven wants to control but Klein is keeping busy and won't allow it. Klein slips a nice elbow through Marven's hands, connecting with Marven's forehead. Marven is trying to get back to full guard. Klein is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Marven is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Kennith Klein! John Marven spoke after the fight, saying 'There Always A Next Time '.
