Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Eddy (ranked 5910 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Martins (ranked 5419 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Eddy !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joe Martins !
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, John Kavanagh and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Martins wants to clinch
and counters with a stiff right hand.
Martins darts in looking for a takedown but gets double underhooks and turns Martins into the cage.
Martins has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Martins shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has pinned against the cage. gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Martins tries to close the distance and clinch but swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Martins swings for the body but moves out of range.

decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Martins manages to escape and get back to his feet!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Martins throws a big shot that misses.

and makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Martins tries for a takedown but circles away easily

Eddy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Martins .

Martins is fighting off a takedown attempt but is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Martins to the mat. Martins regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

drops back, looking for a kneebar! Martins looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Martins looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Martins !

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
is staying active underneath Martins , who seems content to just control the action from this position.
tries to get to full guard but Martins has control of the leg.
Martins tries to pass the half guard into mount. knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Martins is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Martins throws a right and a left that avoids nicely.
Martins goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Martins tries to score a power double leg takedown but sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Martins somewhat.
Martins tries to clinch up but circles away and keeps his distance.

Martins shoots in for a takedown but shows good takedown defense.
is looking to counter the offense by Martins and move into the clinch.

Martins throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Martins is in 's guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Martins advances to half guard.
wants to control but Martins is keeping busy.

Martins remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!

Martins decides to stand up, so the ref orders to his feet.
Martins has a takedown stuffed.
Martins shoots in for a takedown but shows good takedown defense.

Martins tries to land a front kick but steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Martins takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Martins shoots in for a double leg but sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

That was a close second round but I would say that Eddy will probably get the nod.

Joe Martins seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Martins has a takedown stuffed.
Martins tries to close the distance and clinch up but swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Eddy is winning the standup battle so far.
Martins shoots in looking for a takedown. tries to sprawl out of it but Martins keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Martins stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Eddy .
