Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jay Labonte! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jerry Jons! The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Bart Greer and Michael Johnstone.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jons staying out of range there. Jons dives in for a single leg takedown but Labonte sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Jons looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Labonte is fending him off so far but Jons persists. Nope, Labonte circles away and we're back to standing. Labonte shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Labonte slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Labonte working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Jons is trying to get back to half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Labonte lands a decent elbow from side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Labonte controls the position. Labonte advances to full mount. Jons is trying desperately to improve position. Labonte will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Labonte dominating with strikes here. Labonte is in the full mount, landing strikes. Jons is wriggling around trying to escape.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Labonte takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Labonte stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Labonte circles away from the clinch attempt and Labonte counters with a shoot takedown. Jons fights it but they end up in guard. Labonte controlling from the top position. Labonte wants to get up but he can't break Jons's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Labonte stopping the sweep attempt from Jons. Labonte would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Jons can't keep his opponent in guard - Labonte advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Labonte slows the pace down in half guard. Labonte is looking for a kimura here.
Jons really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Labonte. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Labonte wants to stand but Jons has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now. Labonte lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Labonte drops an elbow to the side of Jons's head. Labonte is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! Labonte controlling the pace for now. Labonte's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Labonte fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Jay Labonte dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Jons goes for a double leg but Labonte avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Labonte continues to drive forward. Labonte pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Labonte attempts a low kick but it misses it's target. Labonte is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Jons can do to turn this around? A telegraphed takedown attempt from Jons is defended easily by Labonte. Labonte really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Jons looks for a takedown but Labonte sprawls well. Jay Labonte has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jerry Jons. Jons shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Labonte pinned against the cage. Labonte gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Jons is defended easily by Labonte.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jons blocks a head kick by Labonte.
Jons unleashes a big counter combination but Labonte bobs and weaves and avoids any damage. Jons fails in his attempt to clinch. Labonte tries to counter by clinching up but Jons breaks away and moves out of range. Labonte feints and as Jons raises his hands in defense, Labonte changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Labonte is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Labonte is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Labonte seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Labonte with a nice head shot there. Jons trying to keep a closed guard but Labonte is proving a slippery customer.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Jons misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Jons goes for a double leg but Labonte avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Labonte continues to drive forward. Jons gets caught napping as Labonte dives in and scores a takedown. Jons manages to retain guard. Jons wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Labonte manages to pass to side control. Jons is breathing heavily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Labonte is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Jons! Labonte controlling his opponent. Jay Labonte overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Further stalling from Labonte. Jons is in a horrible position here. Labonte smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Labonte is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Jons is surviving well by controlling Labonte's body position as best he can. Labonte sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Jons is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jay Labonte dominated that second round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!
Jons throws a sloppy head kick and Labonte moves out of range easily. Labonte feinted with a counter takedown. Labonte clinches with his opponent.

Jons being controlled against the cage. Jons wants to take the fight to the mat but Labonte manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. Labonte tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Jons just stands there and leans against the cage. Jons throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Labonte fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Jons is fighting off a takedown attempt but Labonte is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Jons to the mat. Jons regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat. Jons is wriggling around but Labonte manages to pass to half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round. Labonte content to control rather than advance. Labonte landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Labonte prevents Jons from standing back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Labonte looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Jons with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Labonte is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! Jons is desperately trying to improve his position but Labonte has a good base and remains in mount. Labonte working for a submission but Jons is keeping him at bay. Labonte is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Jons can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Labonte jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Jons manages to avoid the submission attempt. Labonte is trying to get an arm triangle but Jons is defending well. A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet. Labonte lands a decent elbow from side control. Labonte remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Labonte grinds an elbow into Jons's temple. Labonte wants to stand but Jons is controlling his arm. Labonte in side control, just content to control the action for now. Labonte is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Jons is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Jerry Jons has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Jay Labonte is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Labonte is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
And that's the end of the fight! Jay Labonte showed his dominance in that final round. Well Labonte has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
