Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kent Baird (ranked 8893 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joseph Davis (ranked 6164 p4p, 0 weight class). Joseph Davis will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kent Baird!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Joseph Davis!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Baird gets tackled into the cage by Davis. Davis maintains the clinch.
Davis lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.


It looks like Kent Baird has been cut.

Baird gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Davis is trying to stand back up but Baird is controlling him

Baird could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Baird working over Davis with some ground and pound. Davis looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Davis regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Baird.
Davis utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Davis really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Baird. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Baird decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Davis, up you get!

Davis has managed to clinch.
Baird can't find room to land a body shot as Davis controls the action.
Davis comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.

Davis breaks the clinch.
Sloppy strikes from Davis. Those never looked like landing.
An attempted straight right counter from Baird misses the target.

Baird has closed the distance and engaged Davis in a clinch.

Davis tries to bum rush Baird with a series of wild strikes but Baird uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Baird drops down looking for a counter takedown but Davis sprawls and moves away.

Davis gets caught napping as Baird dives in and scores a takedown. Davis manages to retain guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Davis manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Davis breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Baird takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.

Baird closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Davis manages to break the clinch.

Davis instigates a clinch.
Davis's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Davis tries to stall but Baird uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Davis breaks from the clinch.

Davis pushes Baird up against the cage in a clinch.

Davis escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Davis tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Baird defends well and Davis ends up having to push Baird into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Baird closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Davis has one foot on Baird's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Davis scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.

Davis forces Baird back against the cage and clinches.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Davis throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Baird blocks it with crossed arms.

Davis breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Davis throws a 1-2 combo that connects squarely on Baird's jaw, knocking him onto his back! Davis dives in looking to finish as Baird flails his arms in a desperate attempt to block Davis's strikes! Davis is raining down hammerfists and the ref stops it! Baird's desperate flailing just didn't constitute intelligent defence. Some people will probably question the ref's decision but Baird was definitely hurt and the ref saved him from taking unnecessary punishment. A fighter's safety is paramount in this sport.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:17 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Joseph Davis!
