Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Williams Delaney! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kolton Sargent! The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Chris Saunders and Ryoma Takatsuka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Delaney shoots in for a takedown but Sargent shows good takedown defense. Despite the aggression on Sargent's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter. Delaney defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Sargent. Delaney appears to be looking for a big counter. Sargent avoids the head kick by Delaney.
Delaney looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Kolton Sargent seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Sargent stuffs the takedown. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Williams Delaney. That's going to take a lot out of him. Sargent will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Sargent fails with the takedown and Delaney counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Delaney shoots in but no luck this time. Sargent changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt. Delaney fails with the takedown. Delaney shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Sargent as he jumps to the side.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sargent wants to clinch and Delaney counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work. Delaney shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Sargent pinned against the cage. Sargent gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Sargent fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Delaney to the ground. Sargent is now in Delaney's guard. Delaney wants to stand and escape but Sargent is having none of it. Sargent looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Sargent pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Delaney is keeping the position for now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sargent content to stall in guard here. Sargent's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Sargent makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sargent gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Delaney misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Sargent feints the counter takedown. A shot to the liver by Sargent. Beautiful body shot. Sargent closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Delaney's guard. Sargent trying to control but Delaney is working from the bottom. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Delaney looking to hit a scissor sweep but Sargent is one step ahead there. Sargent postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Sargent trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Sargent trying to control the position from guard on top but Delaney is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Delaney could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Sargent seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Delaney trying to control the position.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Kolton Sargent dominated that round. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!
Delaney closes the distance and clinches up with Sargent, looking for a takedown. Delaney pushes Sargent against the cage but Sargent circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. A nice side step and Sargent releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home. A looping hook to the body misses from Sargent. Delaney does a little dance to reset his feet. Delaney changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Sargent tries to avoid it but Delaney manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Sargent to the ground. Sargent escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Delaney fails with a takedown attempt from distance. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Williams Delaney. That's going to take a lot out of him. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Sargent is defended easily by Delaney. Delaney stuffs the takedown. Sargent drops Delaney with a beautiful combination! Delaney stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Sargent is looking for the KO!
It looks like Williams Delaney has been cut. Delaney fails with the takedown. Sargent scores with a takedown into Delaney's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sargent won't allow Delaney to sweep him here. Delaney kicks Sargent off and gets to his feet. Sargent fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Delaney, pushing him back against the cage. Sargent has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Delaney lands with a good tight uppercut to the head. Delaney lands an elbow inside. Sargent ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Sargent no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Sargent is trying to control the position but Delaney postures up. Delaney stands up from Sargent's guard - Delaney perhaps looking for a knockout. Delaney throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Sargent's waist but Sargent gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Delaney off to one side. Sargent unleashes a big counter combination but Delaney bobs and weaves and avoids any damage. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Sargent is defended easily by Delaney.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sargent is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Delaney's half guard. Sargent is breathing heavily. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Sargent controlling the action here. Delaney pushes Sargent off looking to stand but Sargent dives back in and keeps control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sargent is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Delaney sees it coming and defends easily. Delaney is staying active underneath Sargent, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Delaney is looking for a sweep. Sargent is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Delaney is not content to let Sargent control the position. Sargent has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Delaney wants to get back to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Delaney is in all sorts of trouble here.
Sargent won't let Delaney get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now. Sargent content just to control the position here. Delaney might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Sargent trying to control but he's not successful this time. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Kolton Sargent showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The cut man is working on Williams Delaney's cut. That's time! Delaney's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.
Sargent tries to sprawl but Delaney drives through with a takedown into half guard. Sargent has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Delaney is on him like a limpet, forcing Sargent back against the cage. Delaney is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Sargent to keep the fight standing. Sargent is trying to break free. Sargent pulls guard effortlessly. Sargent pushes Delaney off and scrambles back to his feet.
This has been an exciting period of action! Sargent has Delaney up against the cage in a clinch.
Both guys are working to get underhooks. Sargent breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Sargent fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Delaney sprawls well initially but Sargent persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sargent looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Sargent decides to return to a standing position. Delaney shoots in and gets a takedown into Sargent's guard. Sargent has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Delaney off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds. A momentary lapse in concentration from Delaney enables Sargent to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Delaney manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Delaney has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Sargent is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position. Both fighters are breathing heavily. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Sargent is trying to drag Delaney to the mat but Delaney just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Sargent wants to break free but Delaney has control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Delaney tries to pull guard but Sargent holds him up against the cage and eventually Delaney drops back down to his feet.
Delaney tries to break the clinch but Sargent is controlling the position. Sargent pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Delaney shoots in for a double leg but Sargent sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Williams Delaney. That's going to take a lot out of him. Sargent tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Delaney paws at him with a jab and circles away. Sargent shoots in looking for a takedown but Delaney manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Sargent's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. As Sargent tries to get set, Delaney tries to push him back and clinch up but Sargent manages to avoid the attempt. Delaney dodges the punch combination from Sargent.
Delaney thinks about countering with a head kick. Delaney uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Sargent.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Delaney throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Sargent tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Delaney is in Sargent's guard. Sargent is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Delaney dives into side control.
Delaney scoring with punches and elbows. Delaney lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Sargent down.

Williams Delaney has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Kolton Sargent is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. Sargent is looking to improve his position.
