PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Frankie Balboa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rick Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Balboa kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is mama said knock you out. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Frankie Balboa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Rick Davis!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, James Ackerman and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Balboa lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Davis circles away quickly and effectively.
Davis tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Balboa swivels and escapes.
Balboa throws a leg kick but Davis moved away.
An inside leg kick lands from Balboa.
Balboa keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Balboa misses with an uppercut.
Balboa swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Balboa changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Davis tries to avoid it but Balboa manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Davis to the ground. Davis escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Balboa tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Davis drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Sloppy strikes there by Davis.
Balboa regains half guard.
Davis prevents Balboa from improving his position.

Balboa trying to hold on to Davis's head to control him but Davis postures up.
Balboa has his hands clasped together around Davis's back. He's all about the action.
Davis scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Balboa is looking to control Davis's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Balboa avoid being mounted?
Davis throws a strike but Balboa avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Davis keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Balboa's head.
Balboa wants to sweep here but Davis controlling him for the moment.
Davis trying to control but Balboa is working from the bottom.
Balboa manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Davis manages to get himself to full guard.
Davis is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Davis can do anything to dispel that myth.
Davis not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Balboa trying to control but Davis is working from the bottom.
Balboa won't allow Davis to sweep him here.
Balboa trying to control the position from guard on top but Davis is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Balboa not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Balboa has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Davis throws a left and a right that both miss

and Balboa counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Davis's guard now.
Davis looking to hit a scissor sweep but Balboa is one step ahead there.
Balboa looking to pass the guard.
Davis throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Davis is striking but Balboa is not phased and passes to half guard.
Davis blocking the ground and pound attempt from Balboa.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Davis will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Davis shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Balboa's guard.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Davis throws a strike but Balboa rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Davis throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Balboa.

Balboa is in all sorts of trouble here.

Davis jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Balboa is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Balboa and Davis has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Davis is breathing heavily.
Balboa regains half guard, as Davis was trying to land strikes.

Davis stalling away here and it's allowed Balboa to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Balboa avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Davis must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Davis throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Balboa works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Balboa is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
The fight stays on the outside here - Balboa looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Balboa moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.


It looks like Rick Davis has been cut.
Balboa throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Davis counters with a lovely straight right hand!


It looks like Frankie Balboa has been cut.
Balboa throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Davis sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Davis throws a left and a right that both miss
and Balboa counters with a solid body kick.
No luck for Davis with that takedown attempt.

Davis keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Balboa misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Davis shoots in and drives through. Balboa sprawls well.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Balboa, right into the meat.

and Davis cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Balboa moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Balboa looks to score with a jab to the body but Davis is just out of range.
Davis throws a leg kick

and Balboa counters with a leg kick then a big left hand that sends Davis down! Balboa is looking to finish but Davis is intelligently defending himself.


Davis is rocked!
Davis has a closed guard, preventing Balboa from standing up.
Davis is still in real trouble! Can Balboa finish him?
Davis looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Balboa puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Davis seems to have recovered his senses.
Davis wants to get back to his feet.
Davis is looking to improve his position.
Balboa performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Davis takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Balboa walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Davis checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

Davis misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Balboa.
Rick Davis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Balboa fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Davis on the side of the head.
Balboa walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

and Davis takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Balboa throws a jab but it's blocked by Davis.
Balboa cracks a nice hook into Davis's ribs.

Davis takes a jab right on the kisser.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Balboa.
Balboa with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Davis to score with a decent uppercut.

Balboa closes the distance and clinches.

Balboa's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Davis gets caught flat footed, as Balboa shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Balboa stands up and waves to Davis to follow him.
Rick Davis has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Balboa cracks Davis with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Davis scores with a punch to the head.

Well Balboa has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
