Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Marty Robbins (ranked 359 p4p, 53 weight class) and John Dio (ranked 2173 p4p, 55 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Robbins might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Big Iron. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the super heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Marty Robbins!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Dio!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Frank Dennis and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Robbins rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Dio counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Robbins throws a jab when Dio was well out of range.
Sloppy strikes from Dio. Those never looked like landing.
Dio lands with a hook. Robbins tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Robbins looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Dio swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Robbins throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Dio.
Robbins scores with a sloppy right hand. Dio should have avoided that one.
Robbins keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Dio tries to clinch but Robbins moves away
enabling Robbins to counter with a crisp jab.
Dio falls off balance throwing a combination
and Robbins connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Dio moves into the clinch successfully.
Robbins lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Robbins is pressed up against the cage. Dio has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Robbins down to the mat. Robbins avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Robbins misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Dio.

Robbins closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Robbins tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Robbins lands an elbow that stopped Dio in his tracks for a moment.
Robbins lands a nice elbow.
Robbins pushes off an throws an elbow but Dio leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Robbins lands a damaging elbow.
Dio takes an elbow to the forehead.
Robbins misses with an elbow strike.
Robbins throws an elbow but it misses.

Robbins pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
The crowd cheers as Robbins lands an impressive looking overhand right. Dio doesn't seem phased though.

Dio clinches.

Robbins comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.

This has been an exciting period of action!

It looks like John Dio has been cut.
Robbins throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Dio misses with a hook to the ribs.
Dio tries to break the clinch but Robbins is controlling the position.

Robbins's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Robbins looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Dio wants to clinch up but Robbins keeps it at a distance.

Dio now looks to counter with a shot at the body.

Dio forces Robbins back against the cage and clinches.
Robbins creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Dio tries to throw a body punch but Robbins avoids it by throwing Dio back against the cage.
Dio wants a takedown but no success here.
Robbins throws an elbow but it misses.
Robbins lands an elbow that stopped Dio in his tracks for a moment.
Robbins misses with an elbow strike.
Robbins is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Marty Robbins has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Dio.

A bit of stalling here from Dio.
Dio has been looking to improve his clinch game in recent weeks. Robbins seems to have the measure of him in the clinch so far, so let's see if Dio can turn it around.

Dio makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.


It looks like Marty Robbins has been cut.
Dio wants a takedown but no success here.
Dio has Robbins pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Robbins manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Dio wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Dio looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Dio drops down looking for an ankle pick but Robbins pulls his leg out and moves away.

Robbins lands a nice elbow from the clinch.
Dio takes an elbow to the forehead.
Dio can't get the takedown.

Robbins breaks the clinch.
Dio takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Dio takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.


Dio is rocked!
Dio slips under a jab from Robbins.
Dio tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Dio is still on wobbly legs! Can Robbins finish him?
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Dio ducks under a wild hook from Robbins.
Dio seems to have recovered his senses.
Dio misses with an uppercut. Robbins saw that one coming.
Dio misses with a hook. Robbins ducked under it nicely.
Robbins keeps the fight on the outside.
Robbins is looking to counter punch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marty Robbins dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

John Dio is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Dio goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Dio is trying to drag Robbins to the mat but Robbins just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Dio lands with a nice combination. Robbins backs away looking to recover.
Dio tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Robbins manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Dio moves out of range as Robbins strikes.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Dio! But no joy.
It's a brutal combination of punches from Robbins! Dio is backing up but he can't get away as Robbins lands with one final shot to the jaw that drops Dio and ends the fight. Great knockout.
