PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Dick Morgan (ranked 9009 p4p, 0 weight class) and Galgarin Wolkow (ranked 4986 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dick Morgan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Galgarin Wolkow!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Aleksandr Martynov and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Morgan instigates a clinch.

Morgan pulls guard effortlessly.
Morgan is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Wolkow is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Wolkow tries to free his leg and advance position but Morgan is retaining full guard.
Wolkow looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wolkow controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Wolkow is in close to Morgan's body, working some short punches and elbows.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wolkow pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Morgan is keeping the position for now.
Wolkow forces his way into half guard.
Morgan trying to control from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Morgan wants to get back to full guard.
Wolkow blocks the strikes from Morgan.
Wolkow looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Morgan won't allow Wolkow to pass to mount.
Morgan trying to control but Wolkow postures up.

Wolkow wants to work for an arm triangle but Morgan is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Wolkow seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Morgan does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Morgan is looking to control Wolkow's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Morgan avoid being mounted?

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Wolkow closes the distance and clinches up with Morgan, looking for a takedown. Wolkow pushes Morgan against the cage but Morgan circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Morgan closes the distance and pushes Wolkow back into the cage.
Wolkow is looking to take this one to the mat.

Morgan turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Morgan manages to end up in side control.
Wolkow holds on tight, trying to prevent any damage.
Morgan wants to control but Wolkow is keeping him busy.
You can see the frustration on Wolkow's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Wolkow is trying to get back to half guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Wolkow struggling a bit here.

Morgan looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Wolkow tries to bench press Morgan off him but Morgan keeps the position.
A bit of a lull in the action here.

Morgan tries for a kimura but Wolkow is defending well.
Wolkow tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Morgan wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Morgan is looking to take a break and control but Wolkow is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Wolkow looks to move to half guard but instead Morgan has passed into mount! Damn!

Morgan is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Wolkow has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Wolkow!
Wolkow keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Morgan's head.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Wolkow engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Wolkow trying to control the position from guard on top but Morgan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Dick Morgan dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Wolkow rushes Morgan and presses him up against the cage.
Morgan tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Wolkow smiles and moves away.
Morgan blocks a head kick by Wolkow.
Morgan fails to land the takedown.
Wolkow motions for Morgan to come forward. Wolkow throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Wolkow swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Morgan counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Wolkow throws an overhand right that lands on Morgan's shoulder, as Morgan tries to avoid the shot.
Wolkow throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Morgan counters with a right hand to the body.

Wolkow moves into the clinch.
Wolkow is trying to pull guard but Morgan turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Wolkow has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Morgan after a bit of a struggle.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Morgan.
Wolkow is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Morgan pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Dick Morgan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Galgarin Wolkow.

Morgan tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Wolkow smiles and moves away.
Morgan fails with a takedown attempt.
Wolkow shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Morgan as he avoids it easily.
Wolkow is breathing heavily.

Wolkow clinches up with Morgan and pushes him back against the cage.
Morgan jumps guard but Wolkow stands there with Morgan around his waist. Morgan gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Morgan gets underhooks to prevent Wolkow's takedown attempt.
Wolkow is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Wolkow tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Morgan smiles and moves away.
Wolkow misses with a takedown
and Morgan counters with a head kick. That will keep Wolkow thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Morgan closes the distance and pushes Wolkow back into the cage.

Morgan gets control of Wolkow's arms and successfully pulls guard. Morgan will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Morgan not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Wolkow throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Morgan keeping moving, preventing Wolkow from controlling successfully.
Wolkow postures up.
Wolkow slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Morgan wants to control but Wolkow postures up.
Wolkow is looking to take a break and control but Morgan is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Morgan can't do much from the bottom here.

Morgan sneaks back into half guard.
Wolkow is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Wolkow is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Morgan is just riding it out for now. Wolkow eventually gives up the hold.
Wolkow looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Morgan is refusing to be controlled, as Wolkow sits in half guard.
Wolkow trying to mount his opponent but Morgan defends it.
Wolkow is trying to control the action in half guard but Morgan is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Morgan is looking to control Wolkow's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Morgan avoid being mounted?
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Galgarin Wolkow has got the better of the ground game so far.
Morgan keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Wolkow passes the guard and advances to mount!
Morgan tries to lock up and control but Wolkow gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Galgarin Wolkow showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Morgan is looking to clinch but Wolkow is avoiding it.
Morgan tries to score a power double leg takedown but Wolkow sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Morgan somewhat.
Morgan tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Wolkow will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Morgan shoots in but Wolkow avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Morgan can't keep his opponent in guard - Wolkow advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Morgan is looking for a sweep. Wolkow is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Morgan is working hard here to advance position.

Wolkow is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Morgan is staying active underneath Wolkow, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Wolkow moves nicely into side control.

Morgan reaches up around Wolkow's neck trying to control. But Wolkow takes advantage instantly and he's locked on an arm triangle! Big trouble for Morgan! Oh that looks nasty! A human being's head is not meant to turn that color! Morgan is out! He's gone limp! The ref steps in to break the fighters up and Wolkow celebrates the victory with the fans!
