PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paul Patton (ranked 25280 p4p, 0 weight class) and Karol Bedorf (ranked 5755 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Paul Patton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Karol Bedorf!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Gwen Towbar and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bedorf displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Patton.
Patton slips a jab and a cross from Bedorf.
As Bedorf tries to get set, Patton tries to push him back and clinch up but Bedorf manages to avoid the attempt.
Patton really is a fat lump.

Bedorf closes the distance and pushes Patton back into the cage.

Bedorf jumps guard and drags Patton to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Patton wants to control from the top but Bedorf keeps moving.
Patton has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Bedorf looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bedorf keeping moving, preventing Patton from controlling successfully.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Patton accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bedorf pulls Patton in close to prevent any damage.

Bedorf is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Patton presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Bedorf turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Bedorf manages to end up in side control.

Bedorf looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Patton wants to control but Bedorf postures up.
Bedorf takes a little break here. Patton wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
It looks like Bedorf might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Bedorf cracks Patton with a big right hand but Patton just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Patton struggling a bit here.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Patton throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.

Bedorf decides to stand back up. Bedorf steps back and let's Patton get back to his feet.
Bedorf scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Bedorf scores with a one two! Patton had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.


It looks like Paul Patton has been cut.
Patton shoots in but no luck this time.
Patton tries to close the distance and clinch but Bedorf swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Bedorf closes the distance and pushes Patton back into the cage.

Bedorf manages to break the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bedorf misses with a lunging right hand
and Patton counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Bedorf throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Patton.
Patton tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Bedorf counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Bedorf slips a nice elbow through Patton's hands, connecting with Patton's forehead.
Patton is trying to stand up here but Bedorf is controlling him well.
Patton might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Patton is breathing heavily.

Bedorf decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Bedorf throws a monster overhand right that drops Patton! Bedorf follows up with more strikes from mount and the fight is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Karol Bedorf!
