PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Harold Shipman (ranked 1157 p4p, 133 weight class) and Shit Face (ranked 3496 p4p, 395 weight class). Shipman kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Amazing. Face is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Blue clear sky. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Harold Shipman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 47 - 38 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Shit Face!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Yves DeLean and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Face shoots in but no luck this time.
Face throws a lazy head kick
and Shipman counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Shipman moves out of range as Face strikes.
Face avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Nice defenses there by Shipman.

Shipman darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Shipman throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Shipman has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Shipman throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Shipman winds up and cracks Face with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Shipman missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Shipman is looking for a kimura but Face is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Shipman to get the leverage.
Shipman thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Face's head.
Shipman moves into full mount! Face won't be happy about that!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Shipman with a couple of short strikes.

Shipman moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Face has worked his arm free - good work by Face!
Face regains half guard, as Shipman was trying to land strikes.
Face regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Shipman.
Shipman throws a strike but Face rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Shipman bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Face's guard.

Shipman in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Shipman drops back, looking for a kneebar! Face looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Face looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Face!

Shipman avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Face.

Shipman tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Face wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
I wouldn't like to be where Shipman is right now.
Shipman is not content to let Face control the position.
Face working away.
Shipman is looking to regain half guard here but Face keeps moving and retains side control.
Shipman is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Face is controlling him well.

Shipman manages to get back to half guard.
Face thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Shipman's head.
Shipman might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Face sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Shipman defending well though.
Face lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Shipman has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Face is working away from the top position though.
Shipman is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Face is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Face takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Face throws a strike but Shipman avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Face postures up and lands a big shot to Shipman's brow.

Face throws an elbow that misses. Shipman uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Face's guard. Nice move by Shipman!

Face has Shipman pulled in close to control his posture.
Shipman trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Shipman throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Face works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Face working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Shipman.
Shipman in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Shipman throws a big elbow that misses.

Shipman drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Face dives on top into guard.

Face trying to control the position from guard on top but Shipman is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Shipman is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Harold Shipman will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

so Shipman counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Shipman is looking to work some ground and pound but Face has wrist control.
Shipman throws a big right hand that misses.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Shipman accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Face wriggles free and stands up.
Shipman tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Face manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Sloppy strikes from Face. Those never looked like landing.
Shipman shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Face pinned against the cage. Face gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Shipman drives through with a takedown into Face's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Face wants to control from the top but Shipman keeps moving.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Shit Face is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Shipman connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Face momentarily.

Face's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Shipman lands with an overhand left.
Face throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Shipman is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Shipman.
Shipman misses with a takedown attempt - Face sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Face moves to clinch but Shipman breaks away
and Shipman counters with a straight right hand.

Shipman shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Shipman was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

and Shipman cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

And that's the end of the fight!
Shit Face comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Shipman has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
