Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vicente Herman (ranked 8540 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jim Dean (ranked 5794 p4p, 0 weight class). The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Vicente Herman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jim Dean!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Roger Salmon and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Herman leaves Dean with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Dean fails with an attempt to clinch.
No luck for Dean with that takedown attempt.
Herman thinks about countering with a head kick.
Jim Dean seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Dean shoots in for a double leg but Herman sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Herman changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Vicente Herman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jim Dean.
Dean fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Herman keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Dean closes the distance and clinches up with Herman, looking for a takedown. Dean pushes Herman against the cage but Herman circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Dean throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Herman's waist but Herman gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Dean off to one side.
Herman circles away from the clinch attempt.
Herman lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Dean goes for a double leg but Herman avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Herman continues to drive forward.
Dean looks winded!
Herman throws a body shot but no joy.
Dean shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Herman as he avoids it easily.
Dean tries to clinch but Herman is having none of it.
Herman could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Dean doesn't manage to clinch there - Herman circles away.

and Herman counters by moving into the clinch.
Herman is looking for a takedown.

Herman has clasped his hands together around Dean's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Herman is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Dean's shoulder. That is not cool.

Herman stands up.
Nice takedown defense from Herman. No joy for Dean on that attempt.
Herman circles away from the clinch attempt.
Dean tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Herman defends well and Dean ends up having to push Herman into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Herman throws a leg kick but Dean sees it coming and checks it nicely.

Herman gets a clinch.
Dean blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Herman jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Dean walks away with a smile on his face. Herman gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Herman leaves Dean with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Herman has Dean up against the cage in a clinch.
Dean is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Herman to keep the fight standing.
Herman is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Dean is defending well.
Herman tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Dean smiles and moves away.
Herman circles away from the clinch attempt.
A counter left hand to the body from Herman misses its target.
Dean tries to clinch but fails miserably
letting Herman counter with a right hand.
Herman takes a swing at Dean's ribcage but misses.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Herman motions for Dean to come forward. Herman throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Dean shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Herman as he jumps to the side.
Dean throws a sloppy head kick and Herman moves out of range easily.
Dean throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Dean looks to clinch
and Herman counters with a series of strikes. Dean will be more careful next time no doubt.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Dean shoots in looking for a takedown. Herman tries to sprawl out of it but Dean keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Herman manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Herman fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Dean manages to avoid it.
Dean pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Herman pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Dean wants to counter with a clinch but Herman pushes him away.
Good leg kick by Dean there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Herman is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Dean can do to turn this around?

Herman slaps away a takedown attempt from Dean, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Herman lands a couple of elbows.
Herman has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Dean is breathing heavily.
Herman controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Herman slips nicely into half guard.
Dean is looking to improve his position.
Herman seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Herman is taking a breather. Dean says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Dean is trying to maintain the position but Herman is very close to passing his half guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Herman misses with a wild body shot.
Herman is looking to wear down Dean with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Herman lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Herman throws a leg kick but Dean sees it coming and moves out of range.
Dean is looking to clinch but Herman is avoiding it.
Dean shoots in and drives through. Herman sprawls well.
Vicente Herman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jim Dean.
Dean shoots in looking for a takedown but Herman manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Dean's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Herman avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Dean.
As Dean backs away, Herman returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.

Herman fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Dean, pushing him back against the cage.

Herman is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Dean can't fight it off and eventually Herman manages to take the fight to the floor. Dean looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Herman slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Vicente Herman dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Dean closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Dean throws a strike aimed at the side of Herman's head but Herman avoids it well.
Dean in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.

Dean tries for a kimura but Herman is defending well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dean looking to control but instead Herman has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.
Dean prevents Herman from improving his position.

Dean stops Herman from getting back to his feet.
Dean winds up and cracks Herman with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Herman is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Dean is pressing down on Herman's thigh, looking to free his foot. Herman is holding on for now.
Herman gets full guard.
Dean trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Herman manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Dean takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Herman is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Herman distracts Dean with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Dean striking off his back but it's not causing Herman any problems.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Herman trying to stand up but can't free himself from Dean's guard.
Herman is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Herman moves into the clinch.

Dean jumps guard but Herman turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Herman is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Dean pulls him back up using the underhooks.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Vicente Herman. That's going to take a lot out of him.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Vicente Herman.
Well Herman has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
