Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Nilo Putsok (ranked 2850 p4p, 312 weight class) and Roy Whitaker (ranked 2366 p4p, 270 weight class). Nilo Putsok has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Nilo Putsok! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Roy Whitaker ! The judges for this bout are Darius Henderson, Chris Dean and Ron Honeybunn.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Whitaker lands with a straight right. Putsok didn't see that one coming. Putsok decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Putsok lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Putsok sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Whitaker defending well though. Putsok has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Putsok is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Whitaker defends it well. Whitaker avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Putsok. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Putsok is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Whitaker is just riding it out for now. Putsok eventually gives up the hold. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Whitaker controlling the position well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Whitaker is looking for a sweep. Putsok is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Whitaker keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Nice strikes from Putsok there. Putsok will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Putsok is thwarting Whitaker 's attempts to control the position. Whitaker is staying active underneath Putsok, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Putsok thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Whitaker 's head.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Whitaker is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment. Putsok is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Whitaker is just riding it out for now. Putsok eventually gives up the hold. Putsok thows a huge punch but Whitaker dodges it nicely.
Whitaker controlling the leg, holding on to half guard. Whitaker wants to control but Putsok is keeping busy.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Putsok tries to score a power double leg takedown but Whitaker sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Putsok somewhat. Putsok throws a head kick but Whitaker moves out of range.
Putsok shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Whitaker as he jumps to the side. Putsok looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Nice body punch from Whitaker . Whitaker has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Putsok is landing a low percentage of strikes. No luck for Putsok with that takedown attempt. It seemed like Whitaker was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nilo Putsok. That's going to take a lot out of him. Putsok shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Whitaker counters with a nice uppercut.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Putsok takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

Putsok is rocked! Putsok shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Whitaker sprawls well. Whitaker wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Putsok gets slowly back to his feet. And an attempted straight right on the counter from Whitaker ! But no joy. Oh Putsok is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Putsok on the wrong end of a nice jab. Putsok is starting to get sloppy and is letting his hands down. Whitaker just took advantage and landed a stinging jab. Oh! Now a right hook, right on the button! Putsok has gone limp and this one is over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:47 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Roy Whitaker !
