Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gryers Walker! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brian Thurston! The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Chris Downing and Tiny Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Walker with a body punch. A glancing blow. Thurston looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Walker throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Thurston looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. Walker misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Walker tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Thurston was well out of range. Poor timing from Walker. No joy there for Walker, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Thurston looks to land a left hand but Walker moved out of range nicely. Walker misses with the combination.
Walker tries to score with a low kick but Thurston moves his leg out of the way. Walker connects with a good right hand that stumbles Thurston. Thurston circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Thurston moves out of range of the body kick from Walker.
Walker fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Thurston looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Thurston shoots in for a double leg but Walker sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Walker dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Walker tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. A lazy left from Walker finds it's target. Walker looking to land some kicks to the body here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Walker tries to bum rush Thurston with a series of wild strikes but Thurston uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Walker throws a leg kick but Thurston moved away. Walker throws a wild body kick that Thurston sees coming a mile off. Walker looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Walker lands with a hook. Thurston tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head. Walker finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Thurston avoids the body shot from Walker.
Thurston avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Thurston tries to move into range but Walker moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand. Walker throws a right and a left that Thurston avoids nicely. Thurston blocks the body kick.
Thurston takes a body punch but keeps moving. Walker throws a sloppy head kick and Thurston moves out of range easily. Walker misses with the combination.
Thurston shoots in for a double leg but Walker sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Gryers Walker is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Thurston staying out of range there. Walker throws out a leg kick but Thurston moves out of range and Walker only half commits. Walker lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw. Thurston closes the distance and clinches up with Walker, looking for a takedown. Thurston pushes Walker against the cage but Walker circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Gryers Walker has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brian Thurston. A lazy left from Walker finds it's target. Walker misses with a jab, cross combination.
Thurston closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Walker tries to get back to half guard but can't. Walker tries to escape but Thurston is in control. Thurston has hold of Walker's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Walker seems comfortable defending it but Thurston has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Walker is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Walker is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Thurston couldn't care less - he's delighted!
