Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Frank Verhoeven! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Vacant Championship! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and .
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Verhoeven looks for the body kick but Championship saw that one coming. Championship moves to clinch but Verhoeven breaks away and Verhoeven counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Verhoeven prevents Championship from getting back to his feet. Verhoeven trying to control the position from guard on top but Championship is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Championship wants to stand up but Verhoeven is controlling him. Championship seems keen to control Verhoeven's posture. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Championship has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Verhoeven has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Verhoeven gets a nice trip takedown into half guard. Verhoeven is breathing heavily. Championship tries to get to full guard but Verhoeven has control of the leg. Championship tries to kick Verhoeven off but Verhoeven keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Championship keeping control of the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Championship looks like he's trying to stand up.
Championship keeping hold of Verhoeven's head, controlling as best he can.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Verhoeven looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Verhoeven lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Championship circles away quickly and effectively. Championship throws a series of strikes that have Verhoeven backpedaling.
Verhoeven connects with a solid leg kick. Championship shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Verhoeven eats them both and turns towards Championship to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Championship lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Good standup being displayed there by Championship as he connects with a hook. Championship gets in close and tags Verhoeven with a short punch that almost sends Verhoeven to the mat! Oh Verhoeven is in big trouble! He turns his back on Championship, trying to create some distance but Championship rushes him, striking wildly and Verhoeven goes down! The referee tackles Championship into the cage to end the fight! Championship is one violent man!
